Garmin Traffic Receiver GTM 25 has ads on my Nuvi 1300

I have a Nuvi 1300. I bought the GTM 25 traffic receiver.

I didn't think this one was ad supported, but it is. I have ads for Best Buy, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and others.

The traffic function works, but I consider that there are ads to be somewhat outrageous. I knew there were ads on some of the latest units with free lifetime traffic, and that fact was disclosed to some extent on those models.

But this required me to buy a traffic receiver which cost a fair amount, and even though there are no ongoing bills (like the $29 a year Magellan charges nowadays) it's still a bit much to take.

They should give the traffic receiver away if they want to sell me off to advertisers.

What other models do you have, and do they have ads or not? Post your experiences.

Marketing department

Marketing departments are notorious for coming up and launching ideas without talking to anyone else in the company - like maybe the customer service department or the store management team. You know, the people who will actually have to deal directly with the customers and process the transactions. grin

This happens so often you would not believe it. Then again, maybe you would. I think we have all been affected by this at one time or another. wink

All FREE traffic alerts have ads. This way they can give something away free. It will only cost you your time to read the ads. To me it is a fair trade off. I wish the traffic worked better. I will be driving and it says Green but I am sitting in traffice, after I move out of the area, it will turn yellow. Not that swift. Now the iPhone seems to work real time and when that shows slow it is.

At which point

My GPS is now a month old and have yet to see an ad on my reciever. Am I a lucky one? Is there a trigger date for them to start showing up?

To

To be honest with you I think Garmin has dropped the ads from the traffic receiver. I have 3 Nuvi's with traffic and use them all regularly in the Phoenix, AZ area. I have not seen an add in at least 6 months, and probably longer. I used to get them regularly when stopped or moving very slowly.

.

There is no "trigger date". I believe the traffic ads have gone away. Many have reported them not showing any longer. If you don't get them, just accept the fact that you're not getting them. They were NOT supposed to display while you were moving but many reported that they did. They may have been a distraction and removed because of that. Nobody really knows for sure except for Garmin.

Thats good

All the GPS is doing is picking up a frequency that already is used for traffic anyway. Kinda like a radio.

There's no kinda like a radio about it - it is a radio receiver that is.

Illiterate? Write for free help.

Ads are gone?

I'll have to check the 1300, I don't get any traffic ads on my Nuvi 1690, but that one has a cellular radio for traffic and for google local, even white pages. Two way data.

However it doesn't work very well. Lousy really.

Ads are gone?

You might remember my nuvi 1300 was stolen and recovered 18 months later.

My 1390

stopped displaying traffic ads months ago. I only ever saw 2 different ads. I suspect the sponsors decided it wasn't worth the money.

Ads?

My 855 has a traffic receiver which when purchased was about $ 125.00 and a lifetime subscription without ads.

My 3790 LMT has never shown me any ads in over 2 years of owning it.

No more ads?

I guess they didn't find the ads were worth the likely significant sales effort involved.
