Tourguide Question

I have never created or used a tourguide but I'm building the basic poi file that will eventually become my first. I'm understanding the basics, but I haven't found a specific answer to my question, so I'd like a little help.

This file will be used as I drive. Each point along the road will have some geologic information. I'd like to have my GPS tell me about the feature I'm passing via a wav file (using sox.exe).

I guess I actually have two questions.

1) Can I use wav files? I only have seen references to mp3s

2) Can I have each individual poi trigger a different audio file? It seems like I can, but whenever I read about building tourguides, the audio only seems to be a single groups of locations, say restaurants, or gas stations, etc.

Thanks

Audio can be different for each POI.

Audio can be different for each POI. But it is probably best to use mono audio at the lowest bitrate possible, as these add up quickly.

The gpx format has a file/URL where you can point to the POI_Name TourGuide.wav/mp3.

Or you can point to a folder that contains both an mp3/wav and a jpg image.

Best place to read the facxts is in the POI Loader Help.

TourGuide Audio

What Dave817 said is correct. In addition I would like to add that if your GPS will play MP3 audio files then why use WAV. MP3 files are compressed while WAV files aren't. A quick search turned up several free programs to convert WAV files to MP3.

MP3 files

Will you be using the 260 or the 1490T or a new unit? I do not think that either of the two your profile indicates have mp3 players. I agree that mp3 is the way to go if possible.

I would suggest gpx files. You should use Turbocc's Extra POI Editor (EPE) to give you lots of options - like a link to specific wav files.

I assume you have already scoured http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/index.html
for tips, but if not, go there.

Thanks all

Yep, I'd be using the 1490T primarily and the 260 as a backup, so no mp3s for me. I'd load this tourguide on an SD card, so size is less of a issue, so I should be good to go.
