Nuvi 660 powering off

When I am driving, my Nuvi 660 frequently loses its power intermittently. I had the unit itself and the power supply replaced back when it was still under warranty, but the issue was never fixed. I suppose that leaves the cradle to be replaced?

Has anyone else had similar issues?

Over the years with my 660

Over the years with my 660 it has spontaneously gone dark..but only on rare occasions.

If your suspecting the cradle, could it be that the battery is being exhausted because its not getting power?

Altho it would be moving and very 'active', try hooking it up to the power supply and just leave it on a table for a few hours...does it still die?

Nuvi 660 powering off

I haven't experienced any power cycling issues with my 660. The only issue I've had is when the unit is exposed to direct sunlight, the display will occasionally freeze.

660 Power Problem

I don't have a 660, I have a 680 and haven't had too many problems with it. My best friend however has a 660 and has the same problem. We tried putting it on the wall power but had the same problem. It is an old unit and with the price of some of the newer units being pretty low, he decided just to buy another one. He got 2-3 years of use out of it. He had the older map in it so by buying another unit and not paying for a map upgrade, he got a better unit with the newer map.

My battery won't charge

My battery won't charge anymore (well more than 30 seconds worth anyway). But as long as it's plugged in it seems to work okay.

Basically what happens is

Basically what happens is I'll hit a bump on the road, the screen will say power lost and ask if I want the unit to remain on (as if I unplugged the DC or turned off the car), then after a few seconds, the power comes back and the message goes away. The power usually comes back before the unit finishes the count down, it's just very annoying. Other GPS units work fine in this car, so it's not the car either. I'm going to try my friend's cradle and see if I still have the problem.

Could Be

A loose jack in your power cord. Pull it from the socket (carefully at this point) and see if you can snug it up. It has a replaceable fuse under the spring loaded power pole, so give it a tightenng twist.

Next check the fuse box under your dash, make sure none of them is "loosely" held. (Though you say other units don't do this in your car, this unit may be more sensitive to fluctuations in the amperage being delivered, so go ahead and check anyway.)

If those don't work, you may have a loose connection (or bad solder joint) in the wires leading from your fuse box to the lighter/poser socket.

Lastly, and imo least likely, the power connector within the GPS unit itself may have a fault. Unless you're an electronics wiz, and maybe even then, enjoy it while it lasts.
