Modify time of warning for a turn?

I have a C340 and am curious if there is a way to change the amount of time prior to a turn that the unit will notify you? It seems like the unit won't say, "turn at x" until I'm about 200 feet away from the turn. At higher speeds, that just isn't enough warning. I'd like to modify it so it warns me of a turn when I'm about 400 or 500 feet prior to the turn.

Thanks.

Modify turn time

I ask Gremin about that problem back in 2005, 2006, a couple of times and they never bothered to fix it

I would like to see the same

I would like to see the same feature. I wonder if Garmin will oblige us.

Agreed, if you are going

Agreed, if you are going fast ( and I don't mean speeding), it isn't enough time. Would love to see that fixed.

driving fast

Its not driving faster, I saw that it does correctly tell you no mater how fast your going but yesy, I would also like to be noticed a little sooner about my exit. I dont mind the turn next right .. its the one that say turn right in 500 feet that I would like to change..

I'd like to see this, too

warning

yeah, this would be a great feature, and it would also be cool to modify ALL warnings like custom poi's too.

I get two warnings

my c530 gives me two warnings. At city speeds I get a turn warning at about 0.3 mi and a turn warning at around 200 ft. The distance of the warnings increases the faster I am going. I have found the factory settings on my unit to be perfect.

warnings seem fine

I have a Nuvi, the warnings are speed dependant, and they seem fine to me.

Does Garmin just not

Does Garmin just not support? Or are they un-willing to let you know how to update the settings.

Not an adjustable setting.

It is not an adjustable setting. I believe it is tied into your speed (as previous posts have said) so that if you are driving on a hwy at 70mph you get more of a distance warning than if you are on a city street.

Garmin

Garmin produces great products, but surely short on responding to customer requests, recommendations, suggestions or ideas that would give competitive edge over its competitor. Examples:
o enable c340 users to store and use POI on SD cards
o enable Garmin to customize alerts distance.

Just my opinion.

My experience (YMMV) has

My experience (YMMV) has been that Garmin has been very receptice to user requests and comments regarding the Zumo. There have been several firmware updates in a relatively short period of little. Many directly addressing (among other things) issues raised by users.

Again YMMV.

so there is no way ?

I am assuming that no onw know how to change when
the C530 reports turns

3 warnings

Are you only receiving one warning for your turns?
Both my Nuvi and Quest(1) give 3 warnings before a turn. It does depend on whether I am on a highway or on city streets. Highway warnings come at about 1 mile, .02 miles and at the turn (about 500 ft). City streets usually send out the turn warnings at around .5 mile, .1 mile and at the turn (about 200ft). I find this to be plenty for my needs, but I honor that every person is different in what they look for.

They aren't going to change this

Why would they change this? This is a feature that is a sellable feature for one to upgrade. Unfortunately, companies do this to ensure revenue. If you want this ability, upgrade to a different model. Just as I would have too do if I wanted bluetooth.

I agree, but

[quote=asianfireWhy would they change this? This is a feature that is a sellable feature for one to upgrade.

I agree with the comment, but there is a problem with the way Garmin goes about explaining the differences in their models. I'm not complaining, because I did a lot of research before I bought my c530, but Garmin doesn't explain well that the c3x0 series doesn't allow POIs from the SD card, nor due they explain well the benefit or presence of the anti-glare screen on the c5x0 vs the Nuvi.

Yeah, I totally agree. I

Yeah, I totally agree. I made my decision on the 530 based on sites like this, not garmin's site or other retailers.

c530

does this mean most of you prefer the C530? I am interested in purchasing. Other places you would suggest reading so I can make an informed decision?

Other places

Do your research. Read reviews, do comparisons between models with the features you prefer. Compare brands, see what fits your needs (wants) and budget.

Use the info provided by kch50428

In addition you can compare Garmin models

Preferences

Trekker:

FWIW I have the Nuvi 680 and Garmin seems to have done a wonderful job of addressing many if not most of the issues I see posted here regarding other models of GPS and their limitations. I am not saying it is perfect - I have my ideas for improvements - but things like glare, warning of exits ahead, use of SD card for POI, etc, etc. are not a problem with the Nuvi 680.

Of course the Nuvi 680 is their higher end unit so one would expect these issues to be resolved and I understand that some folks don't want to spend that much money. Just my thoughts.

Officer I'm sorry I was going the wrong way on that one-way street but my GPS told me to turn left ... Oh, I'm still getting a ticket, okay then the GPS will see ya in court!

Depends on your needs

When I purchased my c530, I made a conscious decision that I didn't need mp3, bluetooth or the capability to use TourGuide. That was a cost/benefit decision. Also, for the price, I didn't think I would need the text to speech (speaking the names of the streets as opposed to saying turn right or left. (When it tells me to turn right, I glance at the screen to see the name of the street and a picture of the turn. If I had TTS, I think I would still look at the screen for the picture (Personal opinion not shared by others).

TTS

I think you are absolutely correct. TTS was also a cost v benefit for me as well. Glancing at the screen to verify the street name and the turn comes second nature.

That was definitely my position too, until it 'er started working on the C510/C530 wink

Now - I wouldn't dream of buying a replacment GPS that couldn't do it!

But anyway, it turns out they gave you it for free wink

TTS

Also having the C530, I opted for the better screen display and better chipset over the C340. The price of the 2 is identical. It's nice driving through tunnels and not searching for a satellite.
