newbie garmin questions

i got the nuvi 350 last week and have actually browsed through the PDF manual. i've been playing with it some and have some questions which i haven't found answers to yet:
1. when viewing the map while NOT on a route, it will sometimes zoom in and sometimes zoom out. does anyone know how it decides when to do this? is there a way to know what zoom level you're at on this screen?
2. in the map detail setting, what does more and most give you over normal? what setting do you use?
3. when you zoom in and out of maps, does the nuvi remember your setting between power off and on or always start at a default setting?

If it works like the c530 here is your answers...
1) The automated zoom seems to be determined by two things, speed and if you are turning.
2) More and most give you more map detail, meaning you see more streets. I use more
3) That is a good question. I never really paid attention, I think it does, but as you have notice, it will change anyways.

More and Most would be your personal preference as to how cluttered the screen may be.
The caveat in the manual is that higher settings may slow down redraws. I have yet to see this with my c550

Zooming In
My C330 automatically zooms in to a much shorter area "as I approach" a turn - at least I know it does in the 3 dimensional mapping mode ! Of course - you can also do it manually !
