The waiting and wondering is over.
Below is a link to the new Nuvi 3700 series announced today on the Garmin website..Other than design I don't see anything earth-shattering and you wonder why they wouldn't make it in the 5" rather than the 4.3" and doesn't mention nu-link.

Sweet
That looks pretty cool. The multi-touch screen looks nice. Not sure about the trends though. Where does the data come from? How often is it updated?

New model
Googled it and found http://www.gpsreview.net/garmin-nuvi-3700-series-3750-3760t-... .Under routes that looks promising.
Perhaps the most important new features are called Garmin trafficTrends and Garmin myTrends. Garmin trafficTrends on the Nuvi 3700 series is an implementation of a feature similar to TomTom IQ Routes. Historical traffic data is built into the device so that it recognizes that a major feeder highway might be smooth sailing at 5:00 am, but more closely resemble a parking lot by 9:00 am. Assuming they are using Navteq TrafficPatterns data (and we have no reason to believe otherwise) the data isn’t as good as what TomTom IQ Routes has so far, but if these devices end up feeding data back to Navteq via software updates we could see the data improve rapidly.

Unfortunately, they don't come with FM transmitter or MP3 player, if thats's important to you. It could be that these additions have been the culprits that cause so many problems in the past that they have decided to omit them.
OK, That's Better
Now make it a 5" screen, waterproof, with a three axis compass and they would have a winner.

I have a 1490T with the 5" screen and wow what a difference. It is amazing how much difference .7" can make. So much clearer and brighter than my old 750 and 765T. Would not want to go back to a smaller screen.

Pixel density the real change
The pixel resolution is 800x480. This is a big jump from the 480x272 used in both the previous 4.3 and 5 inch screens. Even though this is not the big screen I was hoping for it should look better than any previous Garmin unit. I look forward to seeing one in person.
Additionally, the design team created a device that looks as good as the latest smartphone. This may not help functionality much but it should help sales.

Nice series
I'm going to consider this series for my next gps purchase. I see many of the features we listed in our "wish list" thread made it in those units.
I like that voice recognition is now one of the features. I consider that important because of obvious reasons: Taking your attention off the road to touch the gps unit and navigate menus is not wise. Giving it voice commands makes more sense.

I wonder how long it will be until Garmin discontinues the 2x5, 7x5 and 8x5. My guess is that it will be soon.

Wow, $450.00 for a NUVI that is prettier and lacking the features that make it compete with others is insane. Route avoidances, Free lifetime maps are just some of the features that Tomtom and others have that Garmin does not have. While the competitors are adding more features and dropping the price NUVI is making their unit "prettier" and more costly. Wow, I think the marketing department should be fired.

Lack of features
No MP3, no FM. Forgetaboutit. One step foward two steps back
This is what Garmin does
This is what Garmin does with virtually every new entry... add one or two new features...take away 2 or three.
Think
Think the 2 steps back happened awhile ago since the 1xxx series dropped MP3 and FM. 2xx dropped MP3 if I recall correctly.

Too bad it isn't a 5 inch screen.
It really is hard to look at the smaller screens after using the 1490T.
I don't dash mount it, I have it in a cubby hole on my center console, and the larger screen is perfect. A smaller screen would make me have to dash mount it again.
And my eyes are too old for that. lol
Still, if the 3700 series is successful, maybe they will build it bigger.
Am curious how much map detail these units have removed...
Looks good...
Something to look out for...
Feature quota
It's like there's a feature quota! Add one feature, take away another. If the touch screen is as good as iphone's. I'll take it. Higher resolution doesn't hurt. But is it responsive enough?
Garmin Nuvi 3790T
I think they ought to have added a wifi browser similar to the Apple iPod Touch. It could be handy for route planning when you stop, remove it from the mount, and then go inside to browse the web with the device.
Nope, Not For Me
Unfortunately, they don't come with FM transmitter or MP3 player, if thats's important to you. It could be that these additions have been the culprits that cause so many problems in the past that they have decided to omit them.
Gotta have my mp3 player. Another reason to keep my 660.

cheers!
just don't kid yourself...

New looks, features...etc. sound very good...if I remember correctly 7x5, 14xx series were promising the same...the result? Taken away some useful features...and added plenty of new problems...does it sound negative? Yes, but unfortunately it is true reality with the latest Garmin models...so, better wait and see!!!

1690
1690 still the best....(nuLink)
Nuvi 3790t seems nice.
It does not have MP3 though.
I've previously owned a
I've previously owned a Garmin Nuvi 660, 680, 885T and presently I'm using an 855T.
I loved my first 660, hated the 885T because of the poor quality sound when using it for Bluetooth handsfree, so I ended up with the 855T.
I had to return the first 855T because it froze when I used the voice recognition function and even with a working replacement, I find that I no longer use the VR function. It just became superfluous. That might change with the 3790T.
The 3790T has a lot of appeal for me with its slim design and array of features.
I wonder if the handsfree will be more effective with the second speaker in the window mount. Speaking of the window mount, I was disappointed that the 1490 didn't use the " active mount" that I had on my previous Nuvi's. That was the reason I've held off buying a 1690 so I'm happy to see that it's back on the 3790T.
I wonder how the 3790T's features stack up against the 1690?
Since I listen to XM through my car radio I would never use an FM transmitter. As far as I know, it isn't possible to have both at the same time.
I don't listen to MP3s, so not having that function isn't a problem for me.
Yes, I would have liked it if the screen was bigger, but I'm anxious to see one of these units in person. There certainly seems to be a lot to like about this model.

Notice that Too
Unfortunately, they don't come with FM transmitter or MP3 player, if thats's important to you. It could be that these additions have been the culprits that cause so many problems in the past that they have decided to omit them.
I noticed that too. Ever since the 705 series, MP3 and FM transmitter have disappeared from new devioes. Even 3D is not supported (not that I care but it is interesting to see something that recently was touted as being new going away).
I support the right to keep and arm bears.
37xx Nuvis
I am impressed by what I see on the Garmin website. I, too, am considering buying one of these new units - probably the 1390T. I want to let some of you folks buy them first, though. If they turn out to be lemons, you can let us know and you can take the hit for buying a faulty unit (LOL).

I agree... it seems that Garmin is taking steps BACKWARDS. While other Mfg are ADDING features, Garmin keeps REMOVING them.
The included Lifetime Maps with the TomTom units now are the thig that will sway me over to other Mfg and away from Garmin.
After owning at least a dozen Garmin units, I will be giving TomTom a try for my next one.
New 3700
I agree with the the comment it looks and has some functions that are very Ipod Touch or Iphone like they seem to be going the portable route with this unit. Have to admit it would be nice to slip in your pocket especially being so slim!

Just got a 1490T and it is super...bigger screen, better sound, brighter, quick response, fast satellite connection, etc. Have had a 650, 750 and 765T and they in my opinion don't come close to the 1490T. I never used the FM transmitter or MP3 player so I don't miss them at all. I would recommend very highly.

new features
I like the pedestrian mode, makes it versatile for both driving and walking. But why did they take out the MP3. If am going to be using it walking, it would have been nice to be able to listen to some music at the same time. I guess I will stick with my Nuvi 765t for now and see what the future holds.
Battery Replacement
Wonder if user can replace the battery, or you have to send it in?

1690 still the best....(nuLink)
I have a Nuvi 1690 and love it. But remember when they first came out, there were plenty of problems with the 1690. I waited until the bugs were worked out. Since the 3700 series is brand new, I would wait a while until the bugs are worked out. What I read at Garmin about the 3700's look good but real life experience with it will tell how good it really is.

The battery is not
The battery is not removable, either. That and no mp3 player or FM transmitter, makes it a no go for me.
non-GPS functions not needed
I have no use for MP3 or FM functions; I want a great GPS. I hate it when a company distracts themselves from the central, essential purpose of a device by bells and whistles that don't enhance that use.
Yup...

I wish they put wifi + web browser.
Have to Wait -
Well, I can do without the FM, don't use it now, but the lack of a 5" screen and MP3 Player. Guess I'll stick with my Nuvi 660 a little longer.
I still like. . .
The 3700 series looks nice, but I still like the features of the 1690. Personally I think the 1690 offers much more utility.

No MP3 would kill this one for me
For the foreseeable future I want the MP3 player and the FM to push it to the radio. I've got a "new" 765T so there is lots of time for Garmin to up the ante. If I were buying today I'd look seriously at other brands to get the MP3.

Mp3 playback a lost art.
I am disappointed none of these units as of late have the ability to play mp3s. I like being able to load an sd card with all my music and have it play on the gps itself. i only have 1 aux in conection so i can hear all the music/phone calls/directions through my car's speakers. That is one of my favorite features. they didnt even add the nulink services with the google search and traffic. i have been wanting to upgrade my 760 forever now and it looks like i may have to get the 765....
Dunno yet on this one
I'm going to wait to evaluate this one, for the next few generations of this one. we have wait to see what the add and then take away from each concurrent version they spawn.
