New Garmin Nuvi 3700 series

The waiting and wondering is over.

Below is a link to the new Nuvi 3700 series announced today on the Garmin website..Other than design I don't see anything earth-shattering and you wonder why they wouldn't make it in the 5" rather than the 4.3" and doesn't mention nu-link.

Battery

I know I haven't done any research but are replacement batteries really available for the Nuvi? If so, are the prices cringe-worthy?

Gary

Gary Hayman's website just added a page on battery replacement for the Nuvi with link to suppliers:

http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/page11.htm#batt...

Also GPScity.com and GPScity.ca are showing availability of the 3790T as June 11 to 14 with a price of $450 in the US and $480 in Canada. The 3760 shows June 18 & 21 with prices of $400 and $420.

Edit. These two paragraphs say a lot.

With trafficTrends, your nüvi 3790T automatically learns daytime trends for traffic flow to improve your routes and better predict your estimated time of arrival based on time of day and day of week. And you get free trafficTrends™ updates every time you connect your device to myGarmin.

With myTrends, when you save your regular destinations in your “Favorites,” your nüvi 3790T will, over time, begin to figure out where you’re going even without your telling it! It provides time of arrival and relevant traffic information. So whether you’re driving to and from work or a regularly scheduled weekly event, your nüvi 3790T will help you get there on time.

I'll wait

I'll need one of two things to happen: 1) my 855 dies or 2) a significant breakthrough is in the marketplace - my 855 does a lot of very good things and it wasn't even very expensive. I'll be keeping it for a good long while until one of those two things happens.

What's so good about the 765 that would make someone want to "upgrade" to it from the 760?

nice feature on the 3700 model, I like the dual-orietation function. gpscity.com currently accepting pre-order for 3790T for $449.99.

Soon to be released Nuvi 3700 Series

I have been looking at the 3700 series Nuvi soon to be released now. I like the features and don't need MP3. I hope the speaker in the mount makes the voices easier to understand.
How well does the voice-activated commands work in the existing units? I really wonder if it would be worth an extra $50.

voice rcognition

On my 855, the voice commands work quite well as long as there is not background noise ... radio, passengers talking, etc. I will say though, that I find using the voice commands almost as distracting as using the touch screen. ymmv.

Distraction

Thanks Alan, that is kind of what I expected. I added a third Verizon wireless phone in my Envoy through Onstar and I use it all the time while driving. I don't find using it distracting and a simple "Call home" command is fine. If the command gets more complex it really dummies up and it is very distracting whie driving.

Thanks again for the reply.
