The most effective speed
The most effective speed trap I ever saw was a state trooper on the side of the road about 50 yards down the road from his cruiser car which had the lights flashing. We could see the lights from more than a mile away and everyone was going the limit or slower as we went past him.
I got the feeling that he was out there to get everyone to slow down, and not to give out tickets.

Used to see that a lot coming out of Calgary to go skiing. If you were pushing it, you'd get a flash of the wig-wags.

"DUMMY" Police cars
In Illinois, they used to park a squad car along side the tollway with a dummy at the wheel complete with a hat! That worked until everyone realized it was a just a dummy at the wheel and not a live cop!!
