Is it possible to have my custom pois show up on my gps screen? Sorry if this was answered somewhere already, I couldnt find it. I am new to this device.
When you touch where
When you touch where to,extras then custom pois you will see the custom poi list.Touching one of the categories show the closest 50.Other then that selecting one as go to or alarm going off for a custom poi you set alert for is about it.
If you are trying to get the icons to show up you will have to zoom in close to see them.

Thank you. I was hoping to
Thank you. I was hoping to just have an icon show on the map for each of these custom pois, regardless if I was going to them or not.
Displaying Custom POI
Custom POI do not show on the Garmin unit automatically. When you load them, you will also need to load an icon with the list of locations. The icon will only display if you are zoomed in close, say a display area of 300 feet and have set an alert for the POI.
Unlike some other manufacturer's units, Garmin "doesn't want to clutter the map display" by showing POI icons.

Garmin not in to cluttering
Garmin not in to cluttering up the screen with icons. There are other brands that will do it like the Tom Tom.

More Info Please
What I want are lists of POI's that I can set based on proximity and not as destinations.
For example, the list of National Monuments.
If I'm riding/driving near one, what would I have done to be notified?
Can the notification be audio or does it have to be visual only? (I ride a motorcycle, primarily wearing an earbud, with the unit in a pocket.)
Is this possible with preloaded POI's or just custom ones?
Can it be done from the unit itself or do I have to do my routing on the PC and load that to my unit?
How does one "adjust" the distance on the proximity alert?
Thanx in advance

Custom POIs will show up on your screen.

I have a 265 WT and my custom POIs do show up on the screen as I travel. You have to be zoomed in very close before they show up. This only happens for custom POIs, not the built in ones that come with the unit.

In order to receive an alert, you need to tell the unit you want to know when an event happens. For POI it is when you are nearby - a proximity alert. Proximity alerts are one of two types, they are either a rectangular box that is about 100 feet wide by the alert distance, or they are a radius around a point.

If you set an alert for a POI, then it will produce both an audio and visual indication. The default audio alert is a "bong." This can be augmented to be a verbal message if you load a custom alert message along with the list of locations. For your 765 these can be MP3 files that speak a recorded message. The alert will be the same for every point in the associated file, so it could say "Approaching a National Monument" but not be so customized to say "approaching the Jefferson Monument" and then a minute later say "approaching the Lincoln Memorial" without each monument being a separate file.

Just the custom ones.

It's a combination, the alert comes from the unit, but the proximity is set on the computer. When you have created you POI list, it's icon (if desired) and any custom audio alert, you must run POI loader in manual mode. This will allow you to set an alert distance (proximity). You set how far away from the point you want to be notified. Driving around DC with it's hundreds of memorials you would want a fairly close distance, about a 1/4 mile. Speeds are fairly slow, so that distance should be good - not that you'll find any parking. If you want a longer distance, change the value when loading. I think you can go up to about 20 miles but it's in feet or meters.
If you want a radius alert, so approaching a point from any direction will alert, you use the key words TourGuide in the file name. This will set a radius alert, like drawing a big circle around the point. Any time you enter the circle, you get an alert.

If you want to get a radius alert using the word TourGuide in the file name see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13958 for lots of info on the subject.Using the word TourGuide is a big help for example you are on the interstate and want to be alerted for a Cracker Barrel resturant.Since most of them are located a distance off the road.If you have the proximity set for along the route you will not be alerted.Using TourGuide in the file name set at for example at 2 miles using Poiloader in manual mode will increase that distance using the radius alert.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 for setting up custom pois.
