the 765T auto zoom "feature"

after reading a recent article about 2D versus 3D on Gary Hayman's site, I decided to run with the 2D mode for a couple of days to see how I like it.
in doing so, I remembered a "feature" that I believe was introduced with the 7X5 series.
while on a route, the 765T zooms in and out on it's own, as the route progresses, I assume based on the detail that Garmin feels you need based on the upcoming directions.
just so that I am clear, it did this in 3D mode as well...I just happened to recall it while test driving 2D mode, since by it's nature, it is a more zoomed out look than 3D, and I wanted to get a closer look at an intersection.
while I can zoom in manually with the + button, it won't stay zoomed at that level...sometimes it will zoom back out immediately as a matter of fact.
I don't use my 765T in non-route mode often enough to recall if it behaves the same way then or not.
any way to change this?
I would appreciate feedback from anyone here, but especially DorkusNimrod or Gary Hayman, as they both seem to know a lot about the settings and behavior of this model.
I noticed that Also
My other GPS unit ( a Mio c220) used to be able to set the Zoom levels. The Garmin 1390T does the same thing you describe, and I can not fine a way to fix set the @*&^%$ zoom . You zoom out, start moving, it Zooms back in. If you zoom in, and start moving, it zooms out.
I do not think there is a place to make it STAY PUT when you tell it to do something. (This will be one of the reasons I will eventually put the GPS under the front tire and then drive over it, It will make me feel better)

User Selectable Options
Garmin doesn't seem to design their models with very many user selectable options. You can't do much customization to suit your personal preferences.

IIWII - It is what it is.
Autozoom has been discussed several times in the past and there is no way to configure it. It is speed sensitive, it steps at around 30, and again around 60. As it zooms it looses detail. The autozoom does work when just viewing maps, and I'm pretty certain (without testing) there is no difference when routing.
Dorkus reported in another thread it was configurable on the C series Street Pilots, but not on the Nuvi line.

I did confirm on my trip home from work last might, that the autozoom is in effect for map mode as well as route mode on my 765T.
I was not aware that it was speed sensitive, but as I recall my trip last night, that certainly fits.
Thanks again.

I'm using a 755T now which I love, but miss the ability to turn off auto zooming. It was a selectable option on the old StreetPilot III.

Once upon a time...
Early on in it's life, the nuvi 350 also had the ability to disable auto-zoom but Garmin removed it with a firmware "update". It has not been on any nuvi since then with the exception of the nuvi 8x0, 8x5 and 5000 series.
