i have a new Road Tech Zumo 660. I want to add icons so the poi shows as a bpm and not just a grey dot. I've d/l the icons from the icon library and the garmin downloading program. What do i do now? I've read all the how to's/ faq and i'm still lost....just call me a rooky...but i'm starting to get fustrated... sigh.....
You have to put the bmp files in the same folder as the csv or gpx files.Rename the bmp files the same as the csv or gpx file except the extension.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 also see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4359
thanks for the reply charlie...
can i do this with the existing map info that came with the gps or do i have to d/l new poi data to work with the new icons? i'm having difficulty understanding how/where to combie the two.
You can't modify or change any of the poi files within the map, the ones you can change are the downloaded poi files, this can be done with several programs but the easiest one is the Extra Poi editor and can be found here http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/
You can't combine the two.Custom pois are found once dowloaded to your gps.Where to,extras and touch custom pois last.Internal pois are located where to then touch points of interest. You can't change the icons or bmps with the internal points of interest. You can use the custon icons you make or download from site for custom pois. You can also for favorites select icon from list by touching the favorite then edit then change map symbol.
For the custom pois you will need poiloader that you can download at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ to load your custom pois to your gps unit.Download web updater to get your unit updated with latest software at http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp .Follow the instructions at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 to install custom pois. If you have any problems just post.
And by the way....welcome to the site.
thanks for the information guys...i'll give it a try again when i get more time.... i'm sure i'll have more questions to ask....this stuff is all greek to me right now...
thank you for the welcome to the site!!
