NUVI 1690 Screen lock up

Has anyone experienced their Nuvi 1690 locking up after they type a location in Google and then tapping the found location? Once in a while when I want to do a Google search for a location I find that after the location is found and I tap the location on the screen it get highlighted in blue and then does nothing. I then have to power the unit off and then start over. Most of the time after that it works. This only happens when I spell a name of a location in Google or when I input a name under a normal search in points of interest.
Also, If I do a reset by holding the power button for 30 seconds as the instructions tell you to do when the screen locks up, will it delete all of my saved locations?
Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

don't have a 1690

I don't have a 1690 but as far as power cycling the 1690 using the power switch it would be best thought of as a reboot on a desktop computer. Normally when you turn it off it goes to "standby" instead of totally powering off. At least that's what my 885 does. And no, it is not a "reset" but a reboot. Resets are done under tools.

I have a 1690

Mine is locking up on the select city screen. It could lock on other screens but I haven't tried it. But, it is happening when I enter the name.

I would normally suggest updating the system software with the Garmin WebUpdater on the Garmin website. However, it is not recognizing the 1690. The updater on the website isn't recognizing it either although the computer is detecting it as a drive and shows it as a nuvi. I might have to call Garmin and have some words. smile

Oh, as far as deleting favorites, doing the power reset by holding the button will not delete favorites.

Fixed it

The WebUpdater eventually worked. I had the nuvi plugged in for about 10 min at the time. While the main system software didn't have an update there were three files in the additional software that needed to be updated/added: Localization data XML file, nuvi 1690 translation files, and nuvi keyboard definition files. My guess is that the last one fixed it, but you should update all three of those. The other voice or foreign language files do not need to be updated unles you speak those languages.

hmmm... I'm having the same

hmmm... I'm having the same problem.

Lockups during destination entry (usually after selecting an option from the list), forcing a power cycle to fix. Unit isn't being recognized by webupdater.

Any idea how you eventually got the web update to work? Is there a way to manually download an update and copy it to the device?
