Cannot Calculate the Route

Has anyone had the problem of getting an error of "Cannot Calculate the Route"? I started getting this error after I updated my European map last November, but I only receive the error for destinations over 100 mile or so, I think when it calculates between two maps, like OH to IN. I can route anywhere in OH without the error.

Any suggestions? I checked the remaining storage on the device, removed several voices and vehicles, and I have around 500MB left. I have a Nuvi 785t.

.

Have you tried a 'hard reset' yet? That may cure it.

Hard Reset?

Yes, several times (lower right corner during boot up). I also re-installed the firmware using WebUpdater, but it didn't correct the problem.

.

I wonder if you have a corrupted map update by chance.

Europe map.

Have you tried disabling (unchecking) the europe map?

Cannot calculate the route

I unchecked the Europe Map, then tried a new destination. Still received the error. The maps I have loaded are N America 3D, N America NT, & Europe NT (now unchecked).

Cannot Calculate The Route

New observation. When I go to MapInstall, it shows me over my memory limit by 2427 MB! I have City Navigator Europe NT 2010.2 (283 maps) and City Navigator North America NT 2010.3 (128 maps) highlighted. I also have City Navigator North America NT 2010.2 available, but nothing selected on that map. Not sure why MapInstall shows me over the limit when it really isn't (if you believe the mass storage device size my computer reports).

I would...

get rid of the 2010.2, or at least save it on your PC's hard drive.

Cannot Calculate The Route

2010.2 isn't installed on the Garmin, it shows up on the computer when I run MapInstall because it's loaded in the computer's library with a valid unlock code. I have an SD card available, I'm thinking that I could remove the Europe map from the unit's internal memory and load it on the SD card for when I need it, but I'm not really sure how to "unload" a map from the unit.

How do you uninstall a map?

Is it as simple as deleting the files from the Garmin while it is connected to the computer? When I go to Map Info in the Settings menu, I have duplicate map versions installed (like North America 2010.3 and 2010.4). Unchecking them doesn't really delete them. I know I need to contact Garmin, because this is driving me nuts!

.

You can uninstall the map(s) by going to Control Panel/ Add/ Remove Programs and removing all but the latest map (2010.40). When you start Map Source, only one map will show.

Removing Maps

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I am using a Mac

Still no Happiness with my Nuvi 785T

Well, just returned from overseas and had the same problem with my European maps, "Cannot calculate the Route". I was hoping that it was just corrupted N. American maps causing the problem, but it can't calculate routes for anything except locally around my home. When in Indianapolis last weekend, it wouldn't calculate the route to an address 3 blocks down the street. This is very frustrating in unfamiliar locations and traffic information is only for the immediate road ahead, not the route. I'm on my first 35 minute hold for Garmin customer support, then they answer and I tell them I'm a Mac user, then on hold again- usually only for an additional 15 minutes. I wish they had a direct line for Mac support.

Any suggestions for solving the calculation problem?

Well, Garmin couldn't find a fix for the "Cannot Calculate the Route" error I was receiving, even when some places were just 3 blocks down the same street. I sent in my unit and received a refurbished unit in its place. The refurbed unit seems to be working fine after updating the firmware and loading the new maps.
