765T refurb unit -- Map update issues

I just bought a 765T to replace my stolen 750.. Being the cheap SOB I am, I bought a refurb..

As mentioned in other areas on this forum (and elsewhere), there were no special instructions for registering the unit, so I just went ahead and did it...

Sure enough, there was a map update available that they expected me to buy... Yup.. $$$.

So I held for 20 min waiting for customer service to fix the problem.. *sigh*

Great unit, but damn... Can't Garmin get things right with this unit? 3.90 software bugs, refurb registration probs... What else?

Customer service

Would contacting customer service via email be an option?

Haven't had problems--

I've purchased two refurbs (a 660 and a 680) on eBay -- I took care of outdated maps via emails with support (think I started with web-based support requests). With one I got an electronic update, and with the other, I got an update disc in the mail.

The process took a few days, but was relatively painless.

I guess my peeve with this

I guess my peeve with this process is that Garmin *knows* when a unit is refurbished... A quick scan of a unit when it is packaged for resale and a database update should be all that is required for them to be able to fix this issue (which, by the way, costs them money for the support to fix the problem over the phone.)

I was in IT for *way* too long before changing careers -- maybe my expectations are too high...

I have tried numerous times to contact via email for this very same issue, but the web-form keeps giving errors upon submitting.

I guess I'll keep trying.
