Proximity and Speed alerts for Speed Camera POI's

Forgive me if this question was a topic in past, but as a new Garmin user, even after reading of numerous topics about it, I've hit a point where I need help from more experienced users.

Is it normal to get one audio alert even if you drive below the speed limit set for certain camera?

I've tried both situation, loading a .csv file with @speed in every camera name, and using a .gpx file that contained both information (speed and proximity). GPX file was made using Extra_POI_Editor after I modified the .csv file to 5 columns (Longitude, Latitude, POI Name, Proximity, Speed) format. Speed information is loaded correctly. The message board turns red if I'm over the limit and the alert keeps repeating until I slow down or pass the camera. I still don't have feeling that the proximity distance is what I've entered into the file. When open with the Extra_POI_Editor all information are correct, but after checking with a different GPX editor, my proximity was loaded as "Description".

Any suggestion?

Thanks.

P.S. Here is a snapshot of Extra_POI_Editor loaded with information from one camera from my .gpx file.

You will always get at least one alert. The difference is in both the color and if it repeats. If you are faster than the alert speed, then the color turns from black to red and the alert repeats.

The best way to answer this is to open the GPX file using Notepad or a similar text editor (Word usually doesn't work in this instance) and see what the XML tags are for the various elements. Some items will be instantly recognizable, but the distances will be metric rather than imperial.

In order to get EPE to handle distances and speeds correctly, you need to set only the editor to display Imperial. File reads and writes should be metric.

I know the default distance for a camera alert is 400 meters or 1/4 mile. Your distance of 750 feet converts to about 229 meters. That doesn't give you enough time to reduce speed if needed for a speed camera. I use 600 feet or a little less than 200 meters for red lights and rely on the Garmin to calculate the speed camera distance of 36 seconds x current speed.

Thank you

a_user, thank you for your respond.

Last few days I tried franticly to eliminate the audio alert when speed was lower than alert speed, but couldn't get it done. Now I know why smile Although I have to notice that when my speed was much slower (on a freeway in a traffic jam driving 20 MPH while speed limit was 55 MPH) I didn't get any alert, not even message on the screen.
