Car charger for 255W

I have a motorola phone car charger wanted to use it as a spare 255W's charger to keep in another car but turned out it didn't work. When I plugged in, it showed charging mode (not navigate mode).
And I also have a car chager to usb, tried to plug in and result the same, no navigating mode. Therefore, the only car charger and navigating is the one comes with the divice.
Is there other alternative beside buying another chager from garmin?

Review old posts - I remember seeing something about turning the GPS off as it boots up and then turning it on again would "trick" it into going into navigation mode.
I would just buy one on ebay
I would just buy one on ebay for about 3 bucks and save the unit from any possible harm.
