Chicago to Orlando with Nuvi 1490 and traffic reporting

Hi,

I just completed a trip from Chicago to Orlando and back with my Garmin Nuvi 1490t.
At every major city along the route I would receive traffic information. In Louisville it told me that there was traffic on I65 and it wanted me to detour to avoid it. I decided to keep going straight and found no traffic delays. Same thing in Atlanta, the Nuvi notified me of traffic and wanted me to detour. This time I took the detour since I saw a traffic warning in the overhead posting on the highway. I never found out if the warning was legit since the detour was to far away from I75 for me to see the results.
While in Orlando I received many traffic warnings but I ignored them all and found no traffic. One time I heard on the radio that I4 was block due to an accident but the Nuvi never notified me. The funny thing is that my XM traffic in my car NAV told me about the accident and at which exit it occured.
The moral of this story is that I have found out that the Garmin FREE traffic is not as good as either XM traffic or the MSN Direct traffic. I believe all traffic is a hit or miss situation.

Same story we've heard for many years - Garbage in, Garbage out. Any service is only as good as the data fed into it. The main thing is for the most part, you did receive an alert, even if you didn't experience any delays or see evidence of congestion.

I know that on some of my trips, the unit has reported congestion and I've encountered it, but not to the severity that was reported. My unit has reported slowdowns in the Balto/Wash metro area that are normal congestion points. The amount of congestion as in expect delays of X minutes are correct if you compare the traffic flow to what you would see if traffic was flowing at the posted speed.

Doesn't this just pick up

Doesn't this just pick up the local FM traffic? Same as our 1610 in Chicago?
