Leaving it in the car... BBBRRRR!

So I'm thinking...
Maybe I should not be leaving the 755T in the car. I stash it in a small pocket out of sight in the center armrest. It gets pretty cold. Whenever I do use it, I plug it in so I can get traffic, so I'm not worried about finding a dead GPS battery, but I think it'd probably be better to take it out of the car.

The screen is sluggish at is it, and is slower still when it's cold.

I bought my wife a 755T too, but she wants me to return it, because she does not want yet another thing to remember to hide or take with her. Go figure. She's not as gadget addicted as I am anyway.

Maybe I'll keep hers and return mine. Might even get lucky and get a better touchscreen with less mistouches. Probably not, but at least I'll have one that hasn't had its battery frozen.

Glad I bought from Costco.
Or maybe I'll return them both and get an even better one.

Hmm. Lemme go see what they've got now.

Never had a problem from the cold.
We've had a -10 degree weather last month, and today's high is in the teens.
And yes, those are in Fahrenheits.

Theft

I start removing and putting my GPS away while stopped at a red light prior to getting close to my home. It takes a little while to dismantle & store the components (wires, mounts, and such) and I don't want to be too obvious about it where my car will be parked.

Sluggish screen

I leave my 785 in the car all the time (whether concealed or in its cradle) despite warm or cold weather. Yes, the screen gets sluggish for a while in the cold - but that's the nature of LCD technology; the crystals don't polarize as quickly when they're cold. But, soon enough the car warms and it's its quick little self.

Nuvi 255W in the freezing cold...

Well, last year my brother had left his Nuvi 255W in sub freezing temperatures in his car. I can still recall that night, -32C and with the wind chill factor it was close to -50C. Lets just say the Nuvi 255W never started again. sad I would assume a little cold weather should be ok for the unit as well as a little hot weather as well. IMO, anything that is extreme in temperature should be avoided at all costs.

As for the screen, yes it does become sluggish but after a few mins, it starts to brighten up and return back to normal.

I leave it in the car. It is a little "duller" but I haven't noticed any sluggish.

Goes with Me -

When I go in the house, mine goes with me. I'm not taking a change by tempting someone. For the most part, a thief will break a window to get to your GPSr. That's 2 things to replace.

No way, Teddy Bear!! It's too easy to take it with me.

keep in the glove box

I usually remove it & put it inside the glove box leaving the suction cup on the windshield. With the cold weather in Toronto, maybe that's why the battery on mine is not working anymore. I have to plug it in the car power adapter to use it.

I do not leave my Nuvi in

I do not leave my Nuvi in the car overnight anymore. I left it in my car last winter on a particularly cold night (-25C) and ever since then the battery has had a considerably short charge life. The vehicle units are not made for severe weather as are some of the outdoor units. My GPSmap76S will function perfectly at near freezing temperatures and in heavy rain during fishing trips, it’s just that different units are designed for different operating environments.
