POI File Alerts

Ok...let me see if I have this correct!

From reading different entries in the FAQ area I have determined the following:

1) The custiom POI files like Wal-Mart and Rest Areas do not have built in alerts.

2) I can add custom alerts to these files or use the default alert if I set it up by loading manually.

3) When you download new POI files, all previous files are deleted. If you have 3 files saved and download 1 new file....all three will be deleted and only the new download will be saved.

Assuming my previous statements are correct, I do have the following question:

When loading the two previously mentioned POI files, I only want the alert set for the Rest Areas. I would want this file to alert me 2 miles out from the RA. As far as the Wal-Mart file I want no alert. How do you set something like this?? Can I put the Wal-Mart on speed alert and just set the speed at some unattainable level??

Manual Mode

Use manual mode on POI Loader. You can set the proximity alert and distance separately on each POI file.

I ran into the same problem

I ran into the same problem when i started loading POI files just a couple weeks ago. I found as to save the files you want to keep everytime you upload a new one is this.

Make a seperate folder (where ever you want) set that as the main location you save your POI images and sound files. Create inside that a seperate folder for each POI and store all the content in thier own directories. Any time you want to install a new POI in your garmin, just create a new folder in the MAIN directory save all your files into it for the new POI and when you run POI loader it will just go through all of your POIs and you wont "loose" them, but it will just reinstall all of them.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Thank You this information

Thank You this information helped me out a lot. I was wondering the same about it deleting old ones everytime you load new ones on.

Thank You!

Slowly but surely I'll get this figured out.....used to be a lot simpler when we just went to the neighborhood "filling station" and picked up a map for the trip.......but not near as much fun!!

Thank you for your suggestions....guidance....and comments!

Then there's the Renaming Method ... "Try it, You'll like it!"; and the POI files won't be overwritten. See:

Awesome information, Thanks! Im going to have to give this a try to save headaches when testing out proximity distance/speed alerts... much easier when loading to do it once than everytime you make a adjustment!
