POI maintenance and synchronization

G'day,

I just got a nuvi 255w and I'm wondering about procedures for sync'ing my POI locations between my PC (in .csv format) and my nuvi (.gpx format).

I'm concerned that if i build a custom POI files system on my PC, utilizing the tutorials that I am finding on this site, that I may run into an issue if I add a POI using the nuvi. If the updated file is in the nuvi I need to be able to somehow sync that back to the .csv - right? What's the easiest way to make sure that the data on the nuvi matches that on my PC?

Thanks,
Ski

You can't add to Custom POI's on the Nuvi

You can add Favorites on the Nuvi, but you can't add to your Custom POI's from the Nuvi.

But I know where you're coming from. I often add a location or want to update the position of an existing POI. So I save my current location, and it goes into Favorites. But I really want it in one of my Custom POI lists. The only way to do that is on the computer. Using a tool like GeePeeEx or Extra POI Editor, load the original saved POI file from the computer, then import favorites. That will pull in the Favorites that were saved on the fly. Edit/update as required and re-save the POI file back to the computer. Run POILoader to replace the POI files on the GPS and then lastly delete them from Favorites.

Cumbersome, but that's how it's done.

Thanks, I suspected that it

Thanks,

I suspected that it might not be a "clean" process but I'll take a look at the two programs that you listed (I was not aware of them) and give it a shot. I'd really like to get my process nailed down before i start loading a bunch of stuff so I don't have to re-format it later.
