Nuvi 765T Bluetooth Junk?

Not sure if I got a Dud unit. I've been using the bluetooth feature on my Nuvi 760 for a couple years now, and it works great. A Few days ago, I switched to a 765T and the bluetooth is junk. It cuts out, people can't hear me, etc... Does this sound like a Dud unit, or is the Bluetooth feature worse on the 765 as opposed to the 760?

Any input is appreciated.

Did you get a new, and possibly unsupported phone, or is it the same cell? My 775T works well with both my cells. One is an older Motorola (2006) and a 2008 Samsung.

The old Parrot chipset and it's implementation were much better than what Garmin has with the Motorola chip they use now.

As I said above, there's something with either the Motorola chipset or with Garmin's software - I have similar issues with my Nokia N95-4;

Everything works perfectly with the Nuvi 760, but the contact list causes the Zumo 660 to crash (which, of course Garmin blames on the phone. I've been through this with their support people. The have duplicated the problem, but deny that it is the navigator's fault.

NOTHING should be able to cause the navigator to crash. A crash is the sign of poor error handling - and, of course there should be no error in the first place).

It also reports that the phone doesn't support voice dialing (which also works on the Nuvi) and it suffers other issues with the Zumo as well.

If you check Garmin's 'excuse list' (the list of phones they purport to support) you will discover that most of the models are long obsolete.

Shouldn't matter, though, because if it works with one, it should work with the other of their models, but the logic of that seems to be lost on Garmin support.

Have you tried a Bluetooth

Have you tried a Bluetooth firmware update ? That might resolve the issues.

mic

would you guys recommend the mic? or does that not matter?

I have an external mic in my car and in my case it helps (mainly because the 760 is on the left edge of the windshield and the mic is also on the left).

That will not resolve disconnects and such, however.

And, BTW, the answer is that my Zumo 660 is fully up to date - in fact the BT code is embedded in the main firmware, unlike the older devices which used a separate softare module.

i think its the 765.

i think its the 765. sometimes my phone connects and works great, sometimes not.

I considered the BlueTooth

I considered the BlueTooth option but I decided against it.....I have found that in my truck, '01 Ram 1 ton dually, that with the diesel noise it is much easier to just use the BlueTooth headset.

Our Mercedes C300 has the built in BlueTooth....works great...but rarely use it...everyone in the car does not need or want to hear the conversation.

Sometimes I think we try to get one device to do everything well.....which usually means that it does many things ok.....and others poorly!

Just my observations1

bluetooth with cell

I was able to make connection with my 765T but have a couple of issues:

1. If I shut off unit, I have to "refind" my cell phone when I power it back up.
2. Once connected, I cannot make or receive a call handsfree, without telling the unit to "transfer audio to phone" and then "transfer audio to unit".......this has to be done very quickly, or the party on the other end will hang up.......Which, of course, makes it very dangerous.......any suggestions??

Is your BT turned on full time? Some cells have a temporary BT feature. As well, make sure the connection setting to the phone is set to Automatic, if available.

As for the 2nd problem, I haven't experienced this so I can't begin to give you a fix for it... Sorry.

Mic

+1 on the Garmin microphone. Improved my call quality 200% on my 780. I also opted for an external speaker as the 780's speaker is not loud enough, even after modifying the volume output.

Phone type ?

Nuvi 765T and Nokia 5730 bluetooth problems

I have pairing problems with Nuvi 765T and Nokia 5730. It is possible to do initial pairing, look at phonebook and make calls. But it does not pair automatically when nuvi comes up again. The only possibility is to connect from the phone. Checked with two nuvis and two phones, same results. The automatic pairing worked with 760. Bluetooth connection is dropped also sometimes. Phonebook entries containing UTF8 encoded symbols show up as UTF8 codes, not the correct symbols.

Bluetooth broken (worse ) after 3.90 update

I found that after I did a system reset on my 765T it will now pair with my LG enV3 every time I turn my 765T on or my enV3 on when they are in close proximity to each other. This was the way it first behaved right after I got my 765T. Somewhere along the line that part got broken, I think after pairing it with a different phone then back to my enV3.

Unfortunately, after firmware 3.90 was installed bluetooth is completely broken for my enV3. It connects fine, unfortunately no one can hear me now when I press the screen to answer an incoming call. After I disconnect the phone I have to reboot the 765T to get my audio back to the FM transmitter.

Sorry to hear your bluetooth....

Sorry to hear that you guys are having all of those problems with your 700 series Nuvi.
I have the 885T and have not experienced any of the above, and I use it with 2 phones here in the US and a different phone while in South America on missions trips and it works well with the bluetooth with all of the phones, all different makes.

Mine is doing the same thing after 3.90 update

Yep - 765T IS junk!

I just moved from a 760 to the 765T and every time I try to pair with my Nokia mobile the NUVI crashes while downloading my phone book. I had absolutely no problem with my 760.

Also, the map page is often very slow to update. Sometimes, it will take over a minute so you are staring at a screen with a partially blanked out map.

This unit really is JUNK!

I can pair the 765T with my

I can pair the 765T with my BB Curve just fine.

Unfortunately the mic is very weak and people say I sound far away. So I use my Motorola bluetooth headset instead.

It is a bit of a pain because I have to remember to turn on the Motorola headset before I turn on the 765T, or the 765T will take over the BT connection with the BB first and then I have to shut everything off to reset the connection to the Motorola.

Too bad. It would have been nice just to use the 765T. And the 765T speaker is tinny & cheap sounding, and I certainly don;t want to use the FM on a separate frequency from normal music - just another thing to have to deal with when there is an incoming call. This is not such a good application of technology - I have used other BT devices that work the way you want them to. This one looked promising but I am afraid it is not.

Bluetooth problems with 765, pairs but quickly disconnects

I just bought a 765T and I’m trying to pair and connect it to a Samsung SGH-i900 and two different SCH-i910s (Omnia). I’ve paired these phones with lots of other devices and they’ve always worked well, this is the first time I’ve had any trouble with Bluetooth.

I’ve done and tried the following:

Updated the firmware on the 765T to the latest using Webupdater;
Updated the firmware on the SGH-i900 and SCH-i910 to the latest;
Tried pairing and connecting at least 100 times trying different things;
Tried pairing and connecting at least a half mile away from any source of RF interference, including turning off the phone;
Tried changing the common name on the 765T since there were previous problems with this.

Garmin's website doesn't list the 765T as compatible with any phones that I can see, however since the only difference between the 765T and the 775T is the maps, I’m assuming that anywhere I see 775T compatibility the 765T should also be compatible. Also since the SGH-i900 and SCH-i910 Bluetooth hardware and software are the same these should be compatible as well.

I’ve been able to get these to pair, and I’m asked if I want to allow the 765T to access the phone’s contacts. I’ve tried answering this both “yes” and “no”. However within about a second of this the connection is disconnected. No matter what I try I can’t get the connection to last for more than 1 second.

I’ve searched the Internet and I see that a lot of people have had luck with older versions of .GCD files in the RemoteSW folder. Any ideas on how I can get this to work?

765T Bluetooth

Yes. The Bluetooth feature on the 765T is junk. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't. I quit using it on mine.

My 765T

I have an older C550, with the Parrot chipset, and a 765T with the Motorola chipset. Hands down, the C550 Bluetooth is better but the 765T does work with my older Motorola V360 phone. The one thing I noticed is it takes longer for the phone to sync up and download the phone book with the 765T than it does with the C550. On the C550, as soon as I connect the phone icon shows up on the menu though the phone book may still be downloading. With the 765T, it isn't until the phone book is downloaded and other sync niceties are completed that the phone icon appears. When this first happened a few times I thought there was a problem with the connection. Still, once it is connected, it is working and I am able to dial and receive calls.

Sad thing is this is another case of where an older Garmin product actually works better than a newer product. This may very well be the last Garmin I buy as I shudder to think about how much worse things can get. I went for a 765T because I wanted the wider screen as well as the various feature my C550 has (MP3, audio books, Bluetooth, traffic). Newer Garmins are missing some of these features. Plus the buggy 3.90 firmware is the icing on the cake.

765T

Mine works great with my Sony Ericsson phones. It's been working for a year now. Can't say it works any better or worse than my wifes C550. It does work better than my built in unit.

765T

I don't use my bluetooth much but has worked great when I have.

765T

I have been using my 765T since Xmas - it is paired with not so new Motorola KRZR. Has not given a single problem from the get go - pairs just fine, displays the phonebook and call history (in a strange way though - all mixed up between received, dialed and missed calls), and works fine to send and receive voice.
The unit has other known 765T ussies of version 3.90 - second letter freeze for example, but the BT feature has created no grief so far (tfu-tfu-tfu... ;o)

I specifically wanted Bluetooth compatibility in a GPS unit. While I don't believe in using your car as a phone booth, my car has a manual transmission & if I get an incoming call, the bluetooth set-up helps me easily focus on the road.

That being said, Garmin's sound quality is abysmal. Yes, it works but their "String & Tin Can™" proprietary software makes my nice iPhone sound to the other person on the line as if I were at the bottom of a well with my phone at the top.

For those of you who have never been on the receiving end of a Garmin Bluetooth call, let me paint you a picture, think, Thomas Edison's recording of Mary Had A Little Lamb... We've all heard that at some point. I'm not sure how they fit little wax & foil cylinders into my 765t, but I'm sure if I were to crack open the case, they'd be in there.

To be fair, I've got to praise one part of their Bluetooth technology, that of connection. I've purchased both the Apple & Jawbone Bluetooth headsets prior to getting my Garmin & neither one connects as solidly. With the Garmin, my phone can be in my coat pocket, briefcase or even the glove compartment & I still get a solid connection. With the other headsets, if my phone wasn't very close, & in the open, it would lose the connection. Garmin's system is also very straightforward, easy to use & you don't look like a Star Trek extra when using it.

I wrote the above in another thread over a year ago & it hasn't gotten any better since. I've sort of given up on the whole bluetooth phone thing for the time-being.

Nuvi 765T Bluetooth Junk?

I had an old Samsung also, that worked fine, just didn't have a contact list and such. Bought a new Nokia which has all those function and it also works fine. The 765T also disconnects the blue-tooth feature automatically when we use it in Momma's car which has sync my ride feature. No conflicts which surprised me.

765T does not auto reconnect

I had a 760 that worked fine with my Motorola RIZR Z3 phone. Once it was paired, it would reconnect automatically every time the 760 was turned on.
With the 765T, the Bluetooth functions the same, ie all features work, but it will not automatically reconnect. It takes about a dozen screen taps to get it back each time I turn it on. Most of the time, the first time I to to reconnect the Z3 it will display a failed message. The next time it almost always connects. Sometimes it will connect on the first attempt.
I have contacted Garmin two times and they said the problem was escalated to the software engineering department and would be fixed in a new update. It has been over a year and I am still waiting. Since I always remove the Nuvi from the mount every time I leave my car, it is a hassle having to manually reconnect the phone. Several times I forgot to do it and have received a call and can't get to the phone which is deep in my pants pocket and illegal to answer in my state while driving.
Like others have mentioned, I find it hard to believe that a newer model would not work as good as the older one. Maybe, like has been suggested, it is a cost cutting move where the Garmin execs are squeezing every penny from their vendors and using cheaper components to maximize the company profits at the expense of customer satisfaction.

My 765T works with my Solistice

I have a Samsung Solstice (AT & T).

I had forgotten I had paired it with my 765T quite a while ago.The other day while in my car with the Garmin on, my phone rang, the signal automatically went to Garmin. It surprised me, but seemed to work just fine.

The Garmin didn't seem to give me directions while I was on the phone. Is this how it's supposed to work?

If so, I'd rather have the directions and disable the bluetooth.

I and my 765T were in the midst of driving thru Atlanta on Monday when my phone rang. I was not getting any voice directions but was able to keep on course by looking that the turn info in the upper left corner.

I just looked in our manual and it does not indicate whether directions will continue during the phone conversation. There were times when the phone did not seem to operate "clearly" so I wonder whether or not the 765T was attempting to tell me something but the other party on the phone or I was talking over the instructions. I need to try a phone call in which no one is talking and see if the turn instructions will come through.

No Directions w Bluetooth

My 660 and 760 don't provide voice directions when using the Bluetooth. It's probably assumed you'd rather listen to your caller than be interrupted by GPS instructions since you answered the phone while navigating. wink

In the future if you're using the GPS for navigation, just turn Bluetooth off (or remove the link from your phone). Most phones offer hands-free speakerphone anyway.

Try this
Note: This is for a 765t Street pilot

1) Turn on unit
2) Press VIEW MAP
3) Press SPEED in lower left hand side of map
4) This will bring you to the Trip meter screen on this screen press the round speedometer at the top of the screen for about 10 seconds this will bring you to the SYSTEM BIOS.
5) From this point forward be careful you can mess up your unit by changing the wrong thing.
6) Press NEXT until you come to the BLUETOOTH STATUS screen.
7) Now press reset this should complete your update.

After reading this thread I realised that everyone's got different standards as far as 765t functionality. I own 765t from Feb. 2009 and my personal opinion? Bluetooth on 765T sucks... It is junk from day one, the same as FM transmitter on the unit. To justify unfunctional FM as an excuse serves to Garmin government's guidlines for FM transmission...for bluetooth everything else, including false assurance that everything works the way it should...the fact is, Garmin would need a few more years to fix the unit to meet its advertised standard. My only remedy for this dilema is, when time comes to replace my GPS, I will be looking at others...

I own a 765T, as well as two of my friends. We also all had iPhones (iPhone 3G). One friend had consistent bluetooth issues from day one. I had intermittent connection problems. My other friend never had a problem. We have all since upgraded to iPhone 4 and none of us have had a problem. So, the problem may be with the iPhone, not the gps.
