Newbie with Garmin 255w and POI question

Hello,
Just purchased a Garmin 255w for my wife for christimas. Hopefully she won't be too mad when she finds out that i opened the package, but i couldn't help myself. I am experimenting with adding POI's from this site. I've read that you can use a SD card as long as you create a garmin directory, such as /Garmin/POI. I picked the Gander Mountain POI since its not listed on the default POI list on the Garmin and we have a new store in my town. I even opened up the cvs file and located the Paducah store to make sure it was there. I am unable to pull up the store after downloading it to the device using the POI loader from garmin. So, can i use a SD card to store POI's? Lastly, when the loader sends the files to the Garmin, does it copy over the factory POI's or does it just update and add? Will i lose all of my factory POI's? thanks.

Custom POI's

Custom POIs like the ones you loaded using POIloader are not part of the built in POIs in anyway. To find and use the Custom POIs you need to go to Where To? - Extras - Custom POIs. If you downloaded the file using POIloader correctly the nearest 50 Gander Mountain POI's will be listed there.

The factory POIs are part of the map data and can not be moved, changed or deleted in any way other than purchasing a map update.

A 255 has plenty of memory.

A 255 has plenty of memory. While you can use an external SD card, you certainly don't need to and it will be easier just to use the internal memory. Your problems seem caused by not having learned how to use custom POI, not by an internal vs external memory issue.

I would suggest holding off on any extra memory card until you have more experience and can determine if you really have any use for one.
