Downloading map updates?

This past weekend I was TRYING to download the latest maps on my Nuvi 255W. But my computer kept saying "finding device"? For some reason it was not recognizing my unit.any suggestions?
Disconnect the usb cable
Disconnect the usb cable from the gps and reconnect. Might help.

Did the device appear in My Computer as a removable device?
Drivers?
Did you install the drivers for the unit? If you did and it's not being recognized I'd suggest that you install them again.

Sorry, I don't think I was very clear with my last response. I did try unplugging and re-connecting my USB cable from my unit to the computer a few times and it still wouldn't recognize it. I'll try re downloading the drivers and see what happens. Is there any other way to download maps to my Nuvi?

Shouldn't need any device drivers for the Nuvi as Windows XP, Vista and 7 will all find the device without any driver installation on your part.
Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.

This may be the problem. I had it switched on when I connected to the PC. I'll try and see what happens. Thanks!

im pretty sure my 765t connects even after it is on, now i will have to go check and see!
There are two other things
There are two other things you can try:
1. try a different usb port on your computer, sometimes the port may fail;
2. try a different usb cable, some cables are not as good, they are only good for charging not data for some reason.
