Interesting side effect! (turning off 3D maps)

Playing with my 775T last night and I decided to turn off the 3D maps for NA, and Europe, as I use 2D only.

After using it today, I noticed the touch screen was far more accurate, and no misses for entering addresses, or any other icons. My only conclusion was it cut down on the processor load, and freed up a fair bit of memory as well.

While I'm not saying this is a cure, it's merely what I've found. I'd love to hear your experiences with this.

I don't have that type of

I don't have that type of GPS. I have a Kenwood head unit with Garmin navigation, but I may try disabling 3D maps tomorrow on the way to work to see if it improves the speed of things.

hardware update, or reset made it faster

My 765t has always been plagued with occasional touch screen inaccuracies, and it being slow when going to other menus. Two weeks or so ago I did a firmware update on my 765t. Immediately followed by a hard reset. That has made the unit have far less touch screen misinterpretations, and speeded up the menu selections. So far, even with the minor problems it had, I have been happy with the unit. Now, I guess i am plum tickled with it.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

3D

Are you saying you changed the map view from 3 dimensional to North up or Track up? Or did you uncheck the 3D map in the map info list? Or both?

I tried doing this this

I tried doing this this morning on my way to work, but didn't really notice too much of a difference to be honest. Might be because of my unit, but I'm not sure. Would be nice if Kenwood would release a more optimized firmware though for the unit overall.

Thanks

Always good to hear feedback.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info.

775t reset

Thanks will try it.

Makes a difference on nuvi 750

Juggernaut,
I tried turning off the 3D mode on my 750 based on your post. This change seemed to make a significant difference in the lag. In 3D mode, there is a bit of lag when approaching an intersection. In 2D mode, the lag is gone and the screen displays the real-time position.

Thanks for the tip.

Good find...

Good find man.

Another thing...

Recalibrate your screen after turning off the maps. It's also makes a difference!

(Thanks to Miss POI for fixing the thread title.)

Uncheck 3D map

Where do you uncheck the 3D map. I have only seen the screen to use North up, Track up, or 3D. I used to use the 3D all the time but changed to Track up and it is much better, but I don't know where to uncheck the 3D map.

Thanks

3d map

Mgarledge, I don't think the nuvi 750 would have support for the 3d map. I am not sure about this, so maybe DorkusNimrod or someone else with specific knowledge on this will comment.

3D on the 750

The 750 does have support for the 3D map. The option to select it is under Tools>Settings>Map>Map View. The options on that screen are Track Up, North Up, and 3D.

I use 3D most of the time.

3D navigation mode vs 3D maps

Bstpm I believe you are referring to 3D navigation mode and Juggernaut & Mgarledge were referring to deselecting the 3D map file, which I assume contains the 3d building images in the 7x5 series.

Got it. Thanks for clarifying.

660

My Nuvi 660 acts the same way.

I'll try

I'll try

You mean people actually use

can't see difference on 265T

I have tried both 3D and 2D track up on my 265T and do not notice a performance difference. I do prefer seeing 2D view with the screen zoomed out enough to show "immediate turn after turn" situations.
