Need help with a time/world clock problem on a 765

Hi all,
My clock is showing an hour later than the actual time. I deselected "automatic" & set it manually so now the clock shows the correct time but when I set a route the arrival time is still an hour off. Interestingly, its world clock shows that today is Monday July 16, 2029 (time flies).

I've re-read the manual, checked the Garmin web site FAQ's for clues & made sure my unit's firmware & software was up to date.

I've had this unit about 8 months & all has been well with it up to now.

Anyone have any ideas?

I would do a hard reset and then redo your location settings when prompted. Be sure and have a clear view of the sky after the hard reset. Also be sure and back up your favorites before doing so. See:

The GPS should be setting it's clock to the GPS satellites...sounds like it got "lost" somehow and thinks you're in a different location.

Greetings from the future

Thanks for getting back with me.

I backed-up my unit, did a hard reset & stood outside with it for about 10 minutes (that's all I could stand considering its 36º here in MI) but it's still confused. It claims that it's 12:51:04am Tue July 17, 2029 (its 11:51pm).

When I check under "Where am I?" it shows me in the correct area, except about 1 house off (but much closer than it is on the time or year).

I guess I'll try reinstalling my software through Web Updater. Can't hurt at this point.

Still nothing

I reinstalled the software & did another hard reset with no change.

World clock

I don't have your model, but try this.
Touch tools>settings> world clock and adjust the setting to a city in your time zone.

nuvi 855. Life is not fair. I don't care who told you it is.

I poked around in World Clock last night but the only thing I can change is the cities on the left side, everything else is view-only.

I do appreciate the suggestion though.

Time to call Garmin.

The date is concerning

The fact that your date and year are so far off is much more concerning than just the wrong time.

I suspect your unit will be on its way back to Garmin soon...

Yea, I haven't been too hopeful

I just got off the phone with Garmin, as usual they were polite & friendly, but unfortunately, were stumped by this as well.

I'm sending it back in the morning to trade for someone else's problem (refurb unit). I'll hope for the best. The shame of this is I really like the unit but just can't seem to get one that works. This will be unit number FOUR.

Four?!

Sorry to hear of your problems. I'm considering getting the 755T. Not the same model of course, but close enough to cause me concern. I'm glad my 260 has been pretty much trouble free right out of the box.

Keep us informed

FOUR BAD UNITS???

Wow, after getting 4 bad units I'd be pretty unhappy to say the least. I'll stick with my trusty 760. It seems to work fine.

Trying to see the silver lining?

I'm starting to lose my sense of humor a bit but when the dern thing works I love it. The first had a bad touchscreen (Garmin advised exchanging it through Amazon as it was screwy right out of the box), number two developed the inability to show me any of the factory loaded POI or even addresses when I would touch them on the screen (I think that was a software issue but after the tech ran me through the paces, he asked me to send it in for a new one), the next one's battery wouldn't hold a charge for longer than 5 minutes (not exaggerating), they asked me to send that one back, they repaired it & I got the same unit back... which has been fine (outside of a few errant touchscreen input problems) until last week, when it decided that it had leapt into the future.

This will be the first refurb that I've gotten. I just hope that I'm not trading someone else's problems for my own. I've got my fingers crossed.

Crazy as it may sound, sometimes it's the refurbs that are better, more stable units since they've actually been tested to some degree.

Good luck on your new (refurb) unit.

I'm hoping you're right because, as I said before, I really like the thing & I'm not even looking for perfection -just a reasonably working unit.

Thank again for your (& everyone's) help.

Trying to see the silver lining or silver DeLorean?

The year 2029? There is only one remedy for this problem, that's having Garmin replace the flux capacitor on your Nuvi.

You can walk a horse to water, but a pencil has to be led.

The 765?

The 7X5 units are supposed to know not only where they are, but also what time zone they are in. It is a software problem for sure.

So far every re-ferbed unit I have got from them has been a good one. Except for the 7 day turn around time for Garmin (Magellan was shipped out the day it was received) it's a good deal.

I, personally would have a few choice words after 4 units with the Garmin Techs.

But hey, that's just me expecting a little satisfaction for all the turmoil they put you through.

Thanks for making me laugh! I really needed that laugh out loud .

The weird thing is that it did know exactly where I was but just not, WHEN, I was. I would have guessed that it took a shock to the head, but that thing never even fell off my windshield.

Software? Hardware? I'm leaning towards Rayzers suggestion of the Flux Capacitor™.

As for choice words, I politely let them know I wasn't pleased. I'll really let 'em have it at number 6... yeah 6 is my limit.
