Deleting unneeded language files on Nuvi

Lots of language files taking up space on my Nuvi. I don't plan to sell it to a non-English speaker (ok, I might keep Spanish), so I could make room for the 2011 map, which is sure to be another gig or so.

OK to delete?

Just don't delete the ones

Just don't delete the ones you need. You can also do the same thing for text and help files.

Edit.If you go to Garmin support page and under search.Type in How do I free up memory space on my nüvi 755t you will see instructions. http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/support/

Map size

I don't believe the map updates add one gig to the unit, as you'd run out of space very quickly! The download is over 2 gigabytes, but it replaces the old map; not adds to it.

Delete em!
(Just back em up if you ever want em back)

I just did the same last weekend on a 650 because the new maps would not fit.
(The 650 was a gift for my parents..I keep it updated with maps/RL cams.)

Because of this lil problem pedro, helga, fritz, yuri, marcel, etc..etc had to go.. grin

The 650 only has 1.5gb of built in memory..my 660 has 2gb..very odd. (shrug..)

Memory

On most units you can add an additional memory chip and with memory so cheap why bother deleting languages which probably don't take up much room.

i just put a memory in mine

i just put a memory in mine and run my maps off of that. The maps are like 1.4GB now. And then POI's i would definately recommend just getting more memory

Sure - go for it

Every time you run WebUpdater, it will show the languages that are available but not installed on your unit, so you can get any of them back any time you want.

I Did It, No Problem

I did this some time ago, to make room for an update, and it did not hurt one little bit on my Nuvi.

I left the "British English" Voice in my unit, and hoped it would have better diction than the "American English" voice, as I expect the GPS to shout over the car stereo. It was worse.

There are now 16GB micro SD cards, and they come with adapters that are compatible with the memory card slot on some GPS units. This may help your memory woes much better than scrounging for space by deleting "unneeded" files.

Extra languages unnecessary.

Ya..I could have put it on an SD card...but its for my parents. They'd lose it sooner or later...

Besides..we are not 'sophisticated' folks. We retched knuckle dragging peasants and only speak english.
In a few more years, we'll be the ones pressing '2'.
