TTS Speech Doctor Pro - Correct your GPS speech language by yourself

Hi all,
Another little program that could be useful. For those who remember the TTS_Speech_Doctor, this new program is called TTS Speech Doctor Pro. The "Pro" means this is a bit more advanced than the previous version.
It will allow you to modify speech problems for your GPS by YOURSELF. Yes! You can now add your own abbreviation equivalents.
For example, your GPS may say "QEW" instead of "Queen Elizabeth Way". Here's your chance to do it.
How this works:
There is already an abbreviation table in your VPM file. When you load a VPM into TTS Speech Doctor Pro, you will see what I mean. My guess is that table is not very used by your GPS. So why not modify it and add your own speech corrections in it. The only limitation is the new words should not have more letters than the existing ones. So Queen Elizabeth way may not fit. Bad example! ![]()
See the how-to in the readme.txt or on my site. This is not more complicated than playing with TTSVoiceEditor or the previous TTS_Speech_Doctor.

Procedural question
Hi chaspoi,
I always work with the programs on a copy on my computer, never directly on the GPS. I received one report of a "device not ready" (or similar message) when working directly with the file on the GPS.
There should be no real problem, but talking to a USB device is much slower than HDD directly. If it works for you, then all is fine. If you have a problem, work with a copy on your computer, but do not forget to copy the new file back to the GPS after each modification.
Regards,
Turbo
Thanks
Thanks for your input Turbo. That makes sense. From now on I will work on the computer and move to GPS.
Emily wants it her way!
Emily wants it her way
She won't, just won't say "Highway".
I've tried all permutations and combinations of spaces, in the short form and long form, that I can think of.
That sweet English girl just will not do what I want.

You expected, what?
English gals are finicky! You have to tiddle them a lot to get your own way.

I think I tiddled her the wrong way.

I was creating a route back from Key West to the Toronto area in Canada. The route took me onto a lot of toll roads; the Florida Turnpike and the Orlando by-passes etc. So, I told her to avoid toll roads, and she did, hooray!
Then I noticed she'd added over a 1000 miles to my trip. Yes Emily had avoided toll roads. including all the bridges that cross into Ontario at Detroit and those over the St Lawrence river.
She tried to send me up through Wisconsin and around Lake Superior.
Perhaps, it was her idea of a joke.

Alot have had this happen
Several other threads have complaints about the same thing.
First you complain

When she won't talk the way you want her, and then when she does what you tell about avoiding toll roads you complain. What's a lady (no, she's not a gal) to do?
One trick I have learned is to use shorter routes, that allows you to do things like avoiding tolls for part of the route and resetting the unit to allow tolls further along.
The other thing is to use something like MS S&T where you can play with route segments. Did this for our vacation where part of the time it was quickest time, others shortest distance. Sometimes it's the only way to route along some of the scenic drives.

That's OK thanks a_user
I know, by now I should be used to how a woman's mind works. However, their minds seem to get more complex as I grow older and more simple-minded. These days, I just accept that I'll never understand them
Regarding the routing, I was using the full trip just to get an idea of where to stop the night. Then I create a new route showing just the day trip.

Glad you took my remarks in the spirit given. I prefer to plan my routes with S&T or Mappoint as it gives me that information as well. I had the 2009 Delorme Street Atlas on my PC but the 2004 maps I have in Mappoint were better than the Delorme. The MS product will be hard to beat for its ease of use and flexibility.

Kudos to Turbo and other contributors who make the Garmins more fun to use.
I think I may try to change "recalculating" to "...shouldn't we stop and ask directions?!?!?"
