Nuvi 350 poi.gpi

I have downloaded 3 poi files. I see them on my pc, and I used the poi loader to put them on my sd card. I get a congratulation when ir's through saying I succeded and when I look at the card there is one file on it. Its named poi.gpi, but I cant see it when I try to open it on my device. Anyone have an idea why? I would sure appreciate some help.

Thanks

All of the files that you downloaded to the GPS become one poi.gpi. See FAQs for more information.

To see them on your Nuvi 350:
After you've transferred custom POIs to your GPS with POI Loader, they can be found at this location:
Where to? > My Locations > Custom POIs

I don't get the Custom POI

I don't get the Custom POI under My Locations. Just Go Home, Favorites, Recent and Current. Do I have to pont mt Nuvi to look at the at the sd card?

If you used POI Loader,

If you used POI Loader, which I hope you did, then you have the option of having the POI's installed on the unit itself or the SD card. Do not drag and drop onto your SD card.

Have you formatted the SD card

Have you formatted the SD card in the Nuvi? My SD card had been used in a Palm, and even though I was congratulated and I could see the file on the card, I did not get the Custom POI category in My Locations until I formatted the SD card in the Nuvi. Be sure to use FAT32 when you do it. I did a full format, so I don't know whether a quick format will do it or not.

Of course after you do that you will have to load your POI file again using POI Loader.

So on the 350 it isn't

So on the 350 it isn't "Extras"? I know that on the c350 it is under "My locations", but what about the nuvi 350, is it the same or is it like the c series ("Extras")

Check GPS Models section

Each model is different. JM has done a good job of answering this question for each GPS model. The section for GPS models (next to faq & help) provides the specific information for each model. If correct, it says its under "MY locations".

Yes, page 12 of the manual

Yes, page 12 of the manual indicates that they should be under "My Locations".

Oh ok, good to know, thanks!

Oh ok, good to know, thanks! I wish that Garmin would keep the menus the same across the board, except for the extra features, of course you have to have different buttons for those.

That is one thing that really iritates me about our (my company that I work for) software. the menus aren't consistant between the software packages and in many cases the same users use the different packages, so it is almost like they have to learn 3 different products.

You want menus that are consistant? Sanyo cell phones are great. Each time I upgrade, it is a very low learning curve.

Format SD Card

This must be the problem that I am having. I can view jpeg files and I can use POI Loader to load to the SD Card. But when I try to see the POIs on the SD Card, I do not get the Custom POI option. I only get this if they are loaded directly on the Garmin.

Can I simply put the SD card into the card reader and format? I'm hesitant to do any format stuff within the NUVI 350.

p.s. I just formatted the SD Card as Fat 32, Full Format and I still do not see the POIs on my SD Card. Any thoughts?

Are we safe in assuming that you reinstalled your POIs after reformatting? If so, can you see POI.gpi on the card using Windows Explorer -- in \Garmin\POI?

Format SD Card

I did reinstall, the files and can see poi.gpi in windows explorer. Is it possible that the 350 does not allow custom pois on the sd?

i also reinstalled my jpg photos and these can be seen using the Picture Viewer.

Do you have a garmin folder

on the SD card? The SD card needs to mimic the unit structure in the complying the folder names and subfolders. If you duplicate the structure, there is no problem.

I have a nuvi 350, a_user is correct, must have file structure similar to nuvi drive.

Haven't looked at my nuvi drive in a long time, should look something like this:

Substitute your SD card drive letter
E:\Garmin\poi

SD Card

Thanks Oh! Great and Wise One.

I did as you suggested and I created a subdirectory called Garmin/POI along with subdirectories for each group of POIs and it worked like a charm.

Too bad that Garmin's own tech support did not know this.

Card Found

When I start my GPS it says card found and asks if I want to download the POIs to the Garmin.

I can answer Yea or no, but I can also check to "Not Ask Again"

If I do check "Don't Ask", and I decide that sometime in the future that I actually want to download, from the SD to the Garmin, do you know if there is a way to do so, now that it is no longer asking me.

Unplug the card

Unplug then replug in the card. The unit will think you updated.

If it's on SD you should see it.

I upload all the custom poi files using the poi loader to my Nuvi and it creates a file on my SD card called garmin/poi.gpi.

To see the custom poi files I go and look up my Locations and look up custom POIs and they are all visible.

Cheers

Simple

Just cut and paste the gpi file from the card to the unit -- \Garmin\POI folder.
