Interesting

I am familiar with the larger Pelican cases for shipping equipment - this is the first I have seen of these smaller cases. Reviews on Amazon look very positive: http://www.amazon.com/Pelican-Flashlights-1030YEL-C-Micro-Ca...

Search Amazon for similar cases of various sizes. Thanks for enlightening me.

Is it waterproofness that

Is it waterproofness that you're mostly concerned about? For instance, are you planning on using your GPS on a kayaking trip?

When I used a wilderness GPS, I usually put it into the Napoleon pocket in my jacket or in the top lid of my backpack so I could retrieve it when needed to get my bearings. It was only out in the elements for a short period of time barring a torrential downpour which isn't likely at high altitude. The most I would ever do was to put the unit into a ziplock bag (cheap!).

Pelican cases tend to be expensive. With that in mind, I suggested to a friend of mine who has a ham radio to consider a less expensive hardcase normally used for pistols as something to transport his radio. Many hardcases are very durable and include foam padding inside. Of course, this may be too big. If it's durability and size you're most concerned about, then at $15 it seems like a good deal...plus it's a clear case. grin

Interesting

I never see such a small Pelican case before, but quite familiar with their biggies for my photo equipment. I would not hesitate about Pelican's quality though.

hefty one-zip

On canoe trips the storage bag works good. I also place a paper towel in the bag just in case a little water should seep in during an upset.

being waterproof was part of

being waterproof was part of my asking the question, I do off-road trails as well and I was looking for a rugged case.

pelicans are 100% waterproof

pelicans are 100% waterproof or your money back.

I use them for everything, from tiny fly boxes for fishing to double rifle cases and foot lockers when I go on hunting trips, I have two pelican bow cases that got submerged and the inside was dry as a bone.

Pelican and SKB cases are two of the best on the planet. Pros to rookies swear by them for a reason.

You get what you pay for, get one you wont be disappointed.

Also the clear ones are good for regular use, get a solid color one for being beat on.

Check cabelas, they have good deals on pelicans.

I have several Pelican cases

I have several Pelican cases that I keep scuba diving computers and equipment in. They are very dry unless they get more than 6 feet or so deep. Very easy to carry and very lightweight.

There's pelican small cases

There's pelican small cases to hold LAN cables to download data from aircrafts here at work and they take the abuse and are tough. I would buy it and be worry free with it.

I've been using an Aquapac clear dry bag for my...

hiking/kayaking PGS (a 76CX) for three years, and it's never failed me. It doesn't take the knocks that a Pelican will, in terms of ultimate protection. But, it's benefit is that you can use the buttons without opening the case, which is invaluable in a kayak, since I quite literally don't want to rock the boat. And in hiking in rain, which I've done a few times, it's also great to have use of the GPS without getting a drop of water on it.

The microcase seems

The microcase seems perfectly adequate but again it depends on the overriding factor. For instance, from personal experience, I've found that if you want to go 'fast and light' in an alpine setting (mountaineering) then one usually seeks to eliminate additional weight whereever it may present itself. This includes shaving ounces off by eliminating extraneous items or bulky packing.

It all depends on your skill level and the amount of risk you are willing to assume.
