Any 4250,4350, or 4700 owners - I got a question

Hey guys, I recently got a Garmin 255 and like it but It has issues not being able to find addresses on state highways in Northern Michigan. I had a Mag Roadmate 1440 for a couple weeks and really like how many more roads are listed as I'm driving than the Garmin shows but ended up returning for possibly better model. I drive truck and do local deliveries around Northwestern Michigan and alot of them are on state hwys but the 255 is off by 5 miles in either direction quite often. I'm wondering If some of you owners with the above listed gps units would help me out to see if there better at state hwy addresses. I'm listing a couple addresses. If you would, put them in your unit and tell me where they come out.I would really appreciate it.
One is 3050 North US 31 South, Traverse City, MI; Should show between Marketplace circle and Mackey Dr
Second is 2433 N US 31 S, Traverse City, MI ; should show 1000ft south of S Airport rd on US 31
3rd- 6684 US 31 hwy South, Charlevoix, Mi; should be about 2 miles south of M-66 on US31
If I remember right, the Magellan did do better at finding these addresses. I'm not sure which Mag I'd like better; I guess the one that finds these addresses best and go from there.
A big thanks to anyone who will help me with this. I'm new to gps's and it's hard to find the right one. Mfg's do a poor job of giving all the specifics of there units

I have a 4250

Boy is THAT ever true.
I'll be happy to help but it's late now; maybe tomorrow.

I have found recently that my Magellan does what I consider a poor job of routing for trips of over 50 miles in rural America. If there are no Interstates available, then "fastest" appears to be pretty much meaningless and you end up with "shortest".....without apparent regard to the quality of the roads OR the number of turns involved. I guess I want a "most direct" option that will pick big chunks of State or US routes, even if it ends up being a little longer.
(end of rant)

First one: yes, where you said. Maybe a little closer to Mackey Dr.

Second one: Appears correct but I can't get enough detail to be sure.

Third one: Don't know about this one. Appears to be about 700 feet west of Barnard/Norwood road....south of what appears to be an airport.

This is with a 4250 that has the current software and maps.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help. So you

Thanks for the help. So you did'nt have much problem with it accepting the north and south part of the address? That is part of where the Garmin has trouble., when I try to put the N US 31 S together. It usually gives me just US31 or " no match found". I can't decide if I want the 4250 or the newer 4350, but those are two I'm interested in. Do you have any experience with the 4350? The 4250 and 4350 both have voice command, right? Do you think it would work ok in a noisy semi? The positions you gave me were all right on , so I'm impressed. Maybe a 4350 user will jump in here. Thanks again

3050 N US 31 S

Before giving up on Garmin, try putting in "US 31" for the street. That's what I entered on my 780 and it offers "US-31 (N, S)" as an option that when selected then offers "3050 N US-31 S" which is about 2/3rds of the way between Marketplace Cir and Mackey Dr. (Closer to Mackey.) Yeah, Garmin IS particular on how one enters a street name.

"It's not where you start, but where you end up." Where am I and what am I doing in this hand basket?

Yep, already tried

I just punched it in here and told me it was on the north end ,up by the bay.It would only accept us 31. On the other hand, if I zoom in at the area I think it should be and touch various sections of road ,it will show me almost that address with N us 31S. If it can show me there, why cant it tell me when I search for it?? Maybe your higher end model has a better search engine it. Is that possible? Do they put better search engines in higher end models or just add more "stuff", like bluetooth ?

Tried "US 31" on my nuvi 660 and it brought up many US 31 choices. I then entered "US", changed the mode to "+ & @ % !..." and selected "-"; changed the mode to numerical and entered "31". Then Garmin offered up "US-31 (N,S)". Try that & see what you get. Otherwise I can't offer any more suggestions.

edit: Also, entering "US-31" (as outlined above) brings up the Charlevoix address on US 31 S.

I didn't have to enter the whole address; at some point in the entry, it offers up choices that match what you have entered. That makes it somewhat easier....assuming that the operator actually knows which one he wants !!

I've occasionally had a problem figuring out what convention it wants for certain routes; mostly state and county roads, that might be IL 10 or SR 10 or CR 40......but I think that's probably common to most brands.

DO NOT use voice command as a tie breaker. On the 4250 it's set of commands is so limited that it is pretty much a joke. It works......but is mostly useless.
