There are no red light or

There are no red light or speed cameras in Boston or anywhere else in that state.

Miss POI

Mass Cameras

Be careful what you say, Miss POI. You could cause a mass exodus to Boston!!!

Went to school there a lifetime ago. The most dangerous things in play, as I recall, it were the drivers.

Red Light Cameras in Boston and MA

I believe Miss POI is correct. The "camera looking devices" that you might see at the various traffic intersections are actually just sensors and used help to control the lights. For example, if there is a left turn only lane with a green arrow light and no cars are in the "correct spot" the green arrow will not appear.

A lot of calls come into local police from drivers complaining about broken lights when the real problem is that they pulled up at least a car length to close and were not detected.

I'm actually shocked that our wonderful governer hasn't figured out that there is more money to be had !!!

Thank the Gov allowing it now.

It is in the news that as part of the budget overhaul, he allowed towns to generate revenue by allowing cameras. And right after, one of the big companies that does cameras will give it for free.. of course with revenue sharing....

Just an update.

Well, it was written up that

Well, it was written up that it should be a $100 fine and should not affect your insurance should you pay up. Nice revenue generator not based for safety.

no vote

Why don't people get to vote on issues like this?? What does it take to put it on a ballot?

interesting

We were up there over the holidays, and I find it fascinating they still don't have them. Just a week before that, we were in Chicago, and it was my kind of town. Red light cams galore, the nuvi was going off quite often. I couldn't help but feel that the yellow lights are timed properly, not like Phila.

Not allowed

By state law these types of systems are not allowed. The cameras on the road are to monitor traffic conditions in the event of an evacuation or something along those lines. The cameras have been used to investigate traffic accidents.

Tickets for everything.

With the Gov. D. Patrick allowing it and the desire for money AND add the fact the towns will get the cameras for free if they do revenue sharing, I just don't know if they want the money. Yeah.

They can also enforce the jaywalking so that can make more bucks even if its a dollar. So many people look to the sky when they cross.

The last one was a woman on a cell ignoring a police cruiser with lights on just walking crossing the street.

More money opportunity with the cameras - somehow I doubt it will be passed.
