Mapsource

Hello to all here in POI factory! I search the site to see if someone had this problem, but I found nothing about it.
My problem is that I have Mapsource and now does not open, and when I try to open the message is this:
There is a problem with the Family 951 installation
Please re-install Family 951 and start MapSource again.

I went and uninstalled the one I had and installed the one I downloaded, but the message is the same.

Now I don`t know what to do in order to use the mapsource again.
Thank you to all collaborators for a great site and to all that makes it one of the best sites for the users of GPS

Gps! ask where to go and get there! Best of all, what we need is to have accurate pois to reach all destinations

Try System Restore

Not sure if it's an option for you, but you may want to try system restore to a date when you know MapSource worked. Just a thought.

.

Did you upgrade Mapsource to the current version?(6.15.6)

Are you using the Madeira roads and trails map from http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com/mapview.php?id=2002

...the installer isn't compatible with Mapsource versions >= 6.14.

System restore

I am going to uninstall all the mapsource and start again to see if that works. I see if the system restore also works.
Thanks

The simplest solution is to figure out what map name is family 951 and re-install it. That will fix it.

Another poster suggested doing a system restore to an earlier date when it was working. That is also worth trying and perhaps the simplest to try.

Installing mapsource won't fix that problem. You have either a registry problem or a hard drive file/directory issue. That message from mapsource means that some map product "mapsource thinks" you have installed is not set up correctly. Mapsource is reading the registry at start up to locate your products and one or more of the entries is incorrect. How it got that way is anybodys guess.

This is typically because some PC registry entry has gotten corrupted OR a mapsource registry entry is pointing to a filename or directory name which has been either moved, deleted, or renamed.

The family "951" is the numeric name for some map you have or once had installed. Every map has a neumerical type. I don't know what map the 951 corresponds to.

If you are PC savy and not afraid to poke around your registry you can run the registry editor, go to the mapsource section and you will see what mapsource is having a problem with.

In the registry, the installation parameters for mapsource installed products is

My Computer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
GARMIN
Mapsource
Families
(you may see 951 here if non-nt maps)
Families NT
(you may see the 951 here if NT map)

You can do several things.
1. You could poke around those 951 entries looking in the right hand payne an make sure all the files and directory pointers (paths) match those names and locations on your hard drive. If you find errors in a path or a name, you can fix it in the registry and mapsource will work. There could be multiple errors if you've moved a directory where maps were previously saved.

2. You could nuke the problem if you select the family entry for 951 in the left hand payne and delete it. This will essentially uninstall it from mapsource and mapsource will then run. You will then have to re-install the faulty map product whatever 951 is (you'll know when you see what's missing.

If you were to call Garmin they would probably tell you to remove the maps using "add remove programs" and if that fails or the maps don't show up there, they might walk you through the registry edits and simply have you wipe that entire Mapsource branch in the registry out in which case you will need to re-install mapsource and your maps.

It's a lousy problem... Best of luck.

Thanks, I went and I found the Madeira trails and was the problem, I did deleted it and updated the mapsource and now I can open the program. I went to the site and found out those maps where not compatible with Mapsource 6.14

Thanks to you all!
