I am looking for some assistance on how to extract coordinates from PDF files. What I would like to do is go to this website:
http://safetydata.fra.dot.gov/OfficeofSafety/NewCrossing/Def...
and get the GPS coordinates for ALL railroads in Dakota County MN
http://safetydata.fra.dot.gov/OfficeofSafety/NewCrossing/Def...
The above site will allow me to enter MN-27 for the state, Dakota for the County, and then ALL for railroads. However, it displays the reports in a PDF format when you select from one to twelve entries for the report. I can't cut and past directly from a PDF format. I am wondering if there is any way to just pull the coordinates and railroad milepost only from this database?
Extracting Coordinates
I pulled up the PDF file for MN-27, Dakota and was able to extract the coordinates by right clicking and enabling "Allow Hand Tool to Select Text." Then I was able to left click; highlight a coordinate; right click; copy to clipboard and paste. Slow but it is possible. Good Luck!
"It's not where you start, but where you end up." Where am I and what am I doing in this hand basket?
Thank you!
