McDonalds File- Add missing addresses and also location verification

This latest file still has numerous locations, in which only the phone number is listed in column D. Due to the size of this file,I am looking for volunteers to add addresses to these locations. In addition, I would like for these volunteers to compare the listing on the file to the McDonalds listing on its website. I completed Florida and it is a time consuming task.

I'll help...

mahoney,
I'd be happy to help, this is one of my favorite POIs. I sent you a message via your contact form.

Thanks for volunteering

and in your message you included some updates for the Noblesville,IN locations. I have made those corrections to the file. If you want to start with the verification for Indiana, that would be great.

Your Welcome

I checked the Noblesville locations and they are now correct. Thanks. And I'll get started on the rest of IN.

Volunteering

I'm working on the Ohio POIs. I see what you meaan about being labor intensive!

I'm also noting which locations have been added or deleted by comparing the POIs with the website locator. It looks like the McDonalds landscape has changed a lot.

McDonalds file

That is what I found when I did the comparison on Florida. There were enough errors that I felt the USA listing needed a lot of work. Thanks for the help with Ohio.

McDonalds

Hi mahoney - Is your file on line for mcdonalds? I am going on vacation next week Wednesday. If Mcdonalds has free wifi I will stop some for the use. I have heard that if you are an AT&T customer it is free to use. I will be going byway of 15 and then 70 over to Ontario Canada from Anaheim, ca. I have one big file but it has many problems which I haven't been able to work out to use. I'm not sure where I got it, may have been here.

Thank you
Harold

Corrections

Thanks for the inputs. I have made the correction for the Azle location and added the address for the Springtown,TX location. I have added the location in Walmart, Lake Worth,TX. For the location on 6356 Lake Worth Blvd, I can't locate this one in the file. Can you tell me the line item number, or is this also a new location?

Indiana Locations

Hi Mahoney,
I just started looking at the IN locations. So far, lots of duplicates - some of the dups have different coordinates - I was thinking of using GPS Visualizer to try to confirm the correct coordinates for each location, but that seems awfully time consuming. Any idesas for a better method to determine the correct location?
Thanks,

I know what you mean about

I know what you mean about time consuming, I started the file for Ontario Canada, and it's a huge undertaking.

Better Idea,

I wish I had one. The system that I am using is to go to the McDonalds locator and compare that listing to the POI file. I start with the first location in the POI file, put that first city in the locator and from the listing on the locator, check off the locations in the poi file. Extremely time consuming. Now you know why I asked for help.
Once you have the listing up to date, you could than run the list against the gps visualizer and get the coordinates at that time.

better?

bby better do you mean less time consuming? no.
GPS visualizer is the least time consuming way,
and also seems to be the least accurate.

Most Accurate way - seems to be using the actual address with a GPS, then building a route ouyt of the adresses you want to verify, and go for a drive.

I've actually done a litte of that on a small scale.

One thing perhaps we should considder is, lobying larger companies like McDOnalds to actauly post lat/long for their stores.

I accidentally discovered Motel 6 posts the lat/long of each hotel on the page for that hotel at the motel6.com website. Great idea.

Time consuming

yes, it really is. I am glad that you are doing the Canadian file. After the USA file is complete(hopefully), I was going to include the Canadian listing. Now I will strike this off my "to do list".
I did notice that when I tried to get the official McDonalds listing for Canada,it took me to an unofficial listing of the locations. Maybe you found a better source.

I converted mine then worked on them in Mapsource and Google Earth. Just looked at the file in excell and found the following one in 11438 I thought it was the 6356 Lake Worth Blvd but it turns out the be the 6360 Lake Worth

Line # 11438
McDonald's-Wal-Mart-Lake Worth TX
6360 Lake Worth Blvd
Lake Worth, Texas 76135
817-237-4658

Location:
32 45.637N
97 25.586W

---------------------------------------------------
This is the new location that is not in your data base
McDonald's-Lake Worth TX
6356 Lake Worth Blvd
Lake Worth, Texas 76135
817-237-7245

Locaation Correction:
32 48.628 N
97 25.531 W

--------------------------
Sorry for the confusion. Next time I will know to look at the Excel and not the GPX file. When I converted them the addresses did not come through. Will have to look and see what I am doing wrong so the addresses will be in my GPX file

PS. We eat a lot at the Azle, Springtown, Lake Worth McDonald's. I have 7 grandkids and the are all 6 and under, McDonald's is their favorite place to eat.

Lots of driving

With over 13000 locations, that would be a lot of driving. You are definitely right. The GPS visualizer is not very accurate. I have also used google earth to give me a more accurate location with an aerial view, but this is also very time consuming. What we need is for our members to do what you have done and that is to use our GPS's to confirm the locations.

No problem

I really appreciate your input. I have made the changes and will upload the new file. If you get the chance, let me know if I made the right corrections.

Incorrect

It would help if I typed my numbers correctly.

11705
McDonald's-Wal-Mart-Lake Worth TX
6360 Lake Worth Blvd
Lake Worth, Texas 76135
817-237-4658

Location:
32 45.637N (needs corrected to 32 48.637N)

97 25.586W

Good idea you had for me to recheck file after you corrected. Helps if the correct information is given to you in the first place. Sorry.

All others are correct.
Thanks

Retired Technician made a dupe finder available

Retired Technician made the coordinate portion of his POI Verifier II available after pulling the program. I don't know if it is still up, but here's the link from the forums:

Correction made

No problem. I made the correction and will upload the new file.

Missing DC location

thought you might want to add this DC location to the file.

1944 14th Street North West
Washington, District of Columbia 20009
(202) 462-6140
Coordinates: 38.9165755,-77.0319623

Addition

Thanks, I will add this to the file.

Harrisonville, MO

Small town comment...My Nuvi has this one on the wrong side of the road too. smile Most of where I have driven by in passing around the KC area have been correct. Being new to the Nuvi my POI Alerts haven't gotten annoying yet. However, for Harrisonville MO, the correct coordinates are -94.366042/38.662615

McDonalds in Harrisonville,MO

Thanks for the input. I have made the correction to the file.

McDonalds PlayPlace-Chandler,AZ

This POI is a bit off, directing to the wrong turn coming down the Blvd. The proper coordinates should be:

-111.887636 33.306259

McDonalds Playplace-Chandler

Thanks, I will make the correction

Uniontown, PA incorrect location

I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. I noticed that there's a McDonald's logo in Bethel Park, PA that doesn't belong. I'm not talking about the one on Library Road. It's another one close by to that one where there isn't a McDonald's. When I touch it, it says Uniontown, PA. which is much further south in Fayette County. Anyway, just thought you guys should be aware since I just noticed this. Thanks.

Incorrect Location. Uniontown,PA.

I believe that I have found the location that you mentioned above and I will make the correction. Thanks for the input.
If you have any other changes on any files on poifactory, you can get a quicker reponse if you send the changes directly to the maintainer of the files. You can find the maintainer listed on each download page.

Thanks for correcting that

Thanks for correcting that and thanks for the tip. How do I personally contact someone on here about that? When I click on a name it just shows info about them. I don't see a place to message them. Thanks again.

When you click on the maintainer's name, the page should show View, Track and Contact. Click the Contact tab.

Users have the option of not allowing email contact which removes the Contact tab, but I expect most POI file maintainers allow emails.
