Custom Poi's on card

I downloaded the Ohio Winery POI and was experimenting with the alerts.

I downloaded it to the card twice........and it shows 2 winery files on the card. Should be only 1, since it supposedly erases the original poi file.

Another problem.......I have the alerts set for 1500 feet. I was using the simulator to test it out. The alert dosen't sound until your pulling into the place.

It seems that you would want the alert at least a half
mile ahead.

Any advice????

Thanks,

Joe

1.) What are the names of the two files you are seeing and what folders are they in (including paths and extensions)?

2.) This is almost certainly because the coordinates of the winery are placed too far (more than 50 ft from the roadway on which you are traveling.

File is Ohio Vineyards-Wineries_V.csv

It was downloaded to: Garmin\My POI's

It was downloaded twice to MY POI's

From reading here, it is a common problem that alerts are located far off the road.
If your unit can't detect them until your nearly past them.......then their not that great.

Joel,

My question was re the two files that you said you are seeing on your gps. If that is what you answered, and Ohio Vineyard-Wineries_V.csv is on your gps, that is wrong and it belongs on your computer only. Poi Loader should compile all POI files (csv and gpx) in the source folder on your computer into a single POI.gpi file and loads it into \Garmin\POI on the gps. Since no two files in a single folder can have the same name, the POI.gpi file is overwritten every time you run POI Loader unless you take steps to either change the name of the POI.gpi files, or you place multiple POI.gpi files into individual subfolders.

If by "It was downloaded twice to MY POI's," you mean you downloaded the POI file twice from this site and it went into MY POIs on your computer, just delete one copy and run POI Loader again to replace the POI.gpi file and any duplicates it might have.

More Questions

Smileys,

On the 750 I extras>then custom poi's appears....pust that and I get the Winery file.

I used the loader and checked delete all custom poi's.

Now I just came back to extra>custom poi's and pressing custom POI's i just have the list of all the ohio wineries......no file names.

What should I be seeing to know it's right?

If I have 2 different POI's to load from my pc file, how do I do more than one????? As I understand it......if you do one and then another, you will wipe out the first off the card.

Also I guess from the discussion that you guys normally load a sizeable distance for the proximity
alerts to be useful.

I don't use SD card so I'm guessing.

Do you have a poi.gpi on the GPSr by mistake.

That might explain you having 2 show up - 1 on the card and 1 on GPSr.

I think POI Loader will only erase poi.gpi in the specified path.

If you haven't already, look in My Computer to see what poi.gpi files are on GPSr and card.

You can have as many CSV / GPX files as you want. POI Loader will load all. They will show up on GPSr as File Names (minus CSV / GPX extension).

Hope this helps.

POI PROB.

Smileys,

Your right! I must have downloaded to both the card and the Nuvi.

I went into Loader and selected to remove all custom poi's from the unit. It worked. When I checked custom poi's there was just the winery file from the card.

One more thing.....You lost me on the Gpsr on My computer. More info. if you can.

Thanks alot. Sorry for the confusion on my end.

Joe

With your GPS connected to

With your GPS connected to PC, it will show up as a drive (shows as E drive on my PC). Your SD card will also show as drive (Removable Drive F on mine).

Custom poi file is in Garmin/POI folder on GPS. In some cases you may want to rename poi.gpi file to not have it erased by POI Loader.

A copy of Favorites are in GPX folder.

Pictures, music, voices, ... can be viewed from PC.

Please reply if you have more questions.
