What is the best GPS that you can buy for under $200?
Best meaning relible, fast, snd accurate with the best maps. NAVETEQ maps sux. Roads that over two years old are missing in my area.

He who waits will lose!!!

.

If you don't like Navteq maps then that rules out Garmin, Magellan and Navigon.

Sounds like he might have his choice picked out already...

by default. I'm sure that there are a few good TomTom units at or under that price point. And, with their user update feature, maybe that would help (I don't own one so I don't know for sure).

Mios also uses TeleAtlas, but if my MIO Knight Rider is any example of their accuracy, then I'll stick with my Garmin. Guess I'm lucky too--only one place that I don't have a road marked in the Navteq that I travel to often. Ironically, it's my place of work!

I've tried two things when something like that happens:

1. If I can get to it anyway (like my work), I save the coordinates and label it. Sure, I'd love to have my GPS drive right up to the front door, but it's close enough. In a case like that where I know where I'm going, I simpy use the GPS as a backup in case I have to take an alternate route due to construction, traffic, etc.

2. If I've never been to a location before, and I travel a lot, I often use google maps and then download the LAT/LON directly into my GPS. Sure google maps shows the road (and my GPS may not), but since my GPS will try to direct me to a coordinate, if I can get close enough, I won't have any problems. It would be the reverse of course, if my GPS had more roads mapped than google!

Best wishes on any choice! It's great to have any GPS these days as far as I'm concerned.

Looking for input, buying a unit for my daughter

I have a Nuvi 660 and it is a great unit. I just wish Navteq would keep their maps up to date. Thanks for your input.

Here is a list of GPSr's that use TeleAtlas Maps.

Since you don't like NAVTEQ maps, here is a complete list of GPSr manufactures that use TeleAtlas maps.

Your Map Current?

You mentioned you have the Nuvi 660. You did not say if you have the current map which is 2010. That could explain why the roads are not on the map.
