kenwood gna 510

can i put voice alerts in my kenwood g510. i have tried doing this, i created a folder on my desktop and named it
garmin.
I see the way points, (the date base for red light cams and speed traps) in there, do I have to make another folder inside
garmin and name it POI,and go to the sounds if i want a sound from the library?..the file is called Red Light Camera(daniel's voice)Alert Sound, now how do i rename the file before i save it,and after i save it do i put it in the poi folder?

After that I run poi loader and go thru the steps.....now, do I save it in the garmin device or map source advance or custom folder advanced?

I put it in the garmin device and when I open up my sd card I do not see the poi folder in there anymore, and it tells me all pois were installed successfully..I put the sd card in the navagation slot and it tells me that its found new poi..and do I want to install them and by doing so it will erase everything and install the new one ...i do that and it tells me it has installed successfully..I click on tools and the poi and nothing is there ....what am I doing wrong..

You make one main folder

You make one main folder called garmin on your computer and put all the csv and mp3 files in the same folder. If you have a csv filed named redlight.csv and you want sound alert for it you download the mp3 file for it and name it the same as the redlight file except for the extensions. So on for each csv file you want sound alert for.Follow same process.Everything goes in the garmin folder. No sound alert wanted don't add mp3 for it.

garmin =main folder
redlight.csv
redlight.mp3
speed camera.csv
speed camera.mp3
sears.csv
sears.mp3
cracker barrel.csv
cracker barrel.mp3
rest stops.csv
sonny's.csv

Run poiloader and direct it to the sd card in the card reader hooked to your computer.Select manual mode not the express mode. You will select garmin folder location under browse for poiloader. When you see redlight cameras or speed cameras just select next on poiloader because the alerts are built in.When you get to another file for my example cracker barrel put mark in distance and then put in feet for the alert distance you want.Continue until all files are completed and you see finish. Then put the card in your unit.Other ways to get alerts but we need to stick with this right now.

Note if the only alerts you want are the redlight and speed cameras just use express mode for poiloader and you will get the alerts because of the key words in the name of the file.We can go into that with more detail after you get your first custom pois loaded and alerts working for your kenwood gna 510.

Possibly no Voices on GNA510

I cant speak for the Kenwood GNA510, but I have the Kenwood DNX7100, and the best you will get for notification is an audible alert (like a double gong), it will not play MP3's.

I beleive he said he had mp3

I beleive he said he had mp3 in a email he sent me with a question. You may be right.Looking at the manual I do see adjusting the proximity alerts.Menu page, touch settings and general proximity settings. It shows audio notification set for on.Visual notification set for on and last a continous notification for type of pois you want continually alerted for.

Alert Screens the same

I looked at the 510 manual, and the alert screens look exactly the same as the DNX7100 (I would guess its probably exactly the same card). That being said, MP3's are a waste of time because they wont play, BUT, they will be included in the poi file downloaded, and just take up space on internal memory. To get the gong make certain that aduible alerts are set, and that continous notification is only set for speed.

On the issue that theres no poi's are found after loading into the device, I would suspect that an empty POI file was created. As CharlesD45 says, run poi loader in manual mode, this will not only allow you to select if you want proximity alerts, but it will also tell you that it has found the poi files you want to load.

If your unit is like the Nuvi models, you won't find your custom pois along with the built-in pois; they are found under Extras. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/21405 .

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

They are found where to,my

They are found where to,my locations and touch custom pois

It would be interesting to know if you can use the wav files to get the voice alerts?
