Pretty impressed with 755t traffic

I've used the 755t a couple of times now on trips between NYC and Boston and am impressed with the traffic status indication. Pretty much every route I've taken has been covered, Rt. 95, Hutchinson River Pkwy, Merritt Pkwy, Rt. 395, Rt. 295 all have been in the coverage zone. At most, the indicator has been yellow and matched what I was seeing. Haven't seen a red indicator yet so I haven't tried the avoid option.

I am planning to buy it..and it good to hear it works....

.

Thanks

Good to hear. I am planning on getting a 765t soon and am encouraged when I hear good things about the 7x5 models.

I'm sure you guys realize this but the accuracy of the traffic feature has nothing to do with the GPS model. Rather it is dependent on the traffic provider (i.e., Navteq or Clear Channel).

Plz keep us updated. I think this is the first time I've seen someone have something good to say about a traffic updater. Usually, they say it notifies them of traffic 10 minutes after they're stuck in it!

I used the fm traffic all up

I used the fm traffic all up and down Florida which does have good coverage and got very good results on traffic with yellow and red icons.

Locale has alot to do with it as well as the quality of the data being sent. I've had times where incidents were verified as valid and other times where the incidents were either stale of simply did not exist. What may work great in one area at a particular time may be totally useless in another.

I'm not trashing the traffic system as it does work and can be helpful but you simply cannot trust it 100%. It varies by area, time, reception quality & how well the data is gathered and transmitted.

This is the reason for the trial subscription...try it in your area and be the judge from there.

when it gives me accurate report. In my case, during the 3 month trial, traffic report tells me about non existent traffic delay. That happens a lot.

It doesn't tell me about a closed freeway ramp due to construction or road work regardless of the fact that the construction has been going for several months. I'm not sure if traffic report is supposed to cover construction zone or not.

Impressed with 755t period

We just got home in Florida from a trip to Indiana and I was really impressed with the performance of the 755t overall. The traffic icon showed for well over 50% of the trip. The one re-route we had in Nashville was the same re-route everyone else had to use so the 04 minute delay it posted was short by at least an hour. Closed exit ramps. It still was handy fo the rest of the trip.
We stopped in Chattanooga and while I was following Garmin's instructions to make a U-turn to the motel my wife informed me that the Baymont Hotel was straight ahead. Same with a Pappa Johns in Indiana. Seems the Garmin POIs need some work.
I gave my daughter my 760 and hoped the 755t was a significant upgrade. I was really impressed overall with the 755t display, start-up times and the map/location refresh rates. I really enjoy using my new Garmin and see it as a giant step up from the 760.

glad

glad to hear good reports on traffic

I agree with those who say

I agree with those who say that Traffic alerts are neat but cannot be relied on 100%. I have a newly-acquired (via eBay) Nuvi 760 with free 3-month subscription to traffic alerts.

Used it a couple of weekends ago on trip from SW Connecticut to NE Virginia and back. Warnings were sometimes on roads way out of our way so did not pertain, some of our routes were not covered apparently, but some were definitely on our route -- such as in Delaware just after the bridge -- and we took the Avoid route which took us through some local streets to get onto I-95.

Otherwise watching the delay icon's minutes go up and down and sometimes checking specific roads was fun and/or gave me something to do while my wife was driving.

I have the 755T model and have used it in trips to FL, around FL and back to NY. The traffic indicator is correct sometimes and other times it is totally wrong. We were coming north on I-81 and it gave a 'red' traffic warning. When I pressed it to find out where, it indicated around Scranton, PA. Then when I backed out, the indicator turned green again. When we got to Scranton, we stopped/crawled in traffic for an hour before we finally gave up and took the back roads through town to get around it. The traffic indicator showed GREEN the whole time we were stopped. I guess that the traffic indicator is only as good as the input to the system.

I agree But

it does seem to get better and better on a consistent basis.
