Garmin Nuvi 360 Says Street names ending in "a" funny.

I just purchased the Garmin Nuvi 360 and noticed the unit says street names ending in "a" as a silent "a".

For example "Marmora Av." sounds like "Marmor Av."

Has anyone else noticed this?

I have a c340 and it

I have a c340 and it pronounces Drive ( Dr. ) as Doctor. Kinda makes me laugh every time I turn.

Orbital

Abbreviation for Business Route

on the map is Br. - and the Australian Karen says that is 'bridge'...I get "turn left to I-35 bridge"...part of Karen's charm I think.

had the same observation with the Nuvi 350. I tried different voices and it didnt seem to make much of of difference.

Thank you everyone, I guess

Thank you everyone,

I guess maybe some day Garmin will update the voice engine to fix these quirky things.

At least, your Nuvi has not

At least, your Nuvi has not been misbehaving. My 350 gives us a wrong instruction. Instead of instructing us to keep straight ahead as shown in the map leading to my house, it always instruct us to turn right and then keep right. That's really annonying.

Misbehaving

My subdivision has a strait road but towards the end has a quick jog to the right. I want to continue strait thru the intersection but it tells me to turn right. As soon as I get close to the street says turn right then take left the offset is maybe 1/2 a car length.... just one more of those fun quirks with odd streets...

haha, I've encountered the same thing before. It's a good thing I look at the map as well as listening to the voice prompts.

same issue with streets that end in "e" ... maybe any/all vowels?

My 7200 can,t pronounce B

My 7200 can,t pronounce B worth a damn. I dont understand why Garmin can,t pronounce the English language better then what it does. Every Gps that comes with a new car is Crystal clear. Then again I,ve only been in about five cars that came with a GPS system.

Jill can't pronounce T's at the end of words either

When I travel to Coit Road, she says "Turn left on Coitch."

So now my wife and I refer to it as Coitch and everything sounds correct.

I plan to live forever. So far, so good.

Pronounciation

My 2730 & 7500 both speak "Phonetically".

I smile whenever I am on a street near my house named "Honeygo Blvd".

They pronounce it "Ho-nee-go".

I find it kinda amusing....

nuvi 660

British voices (maybe Australian too) often try to treat proper names as contractions. I get "Tech Road" pronounced as "Technical Road" and "Max's Kosher Cafe" as "Maximum's Kosher Cafe". smile

760 the same

My 760 likes to cut the end on names too. I didn't have that with the 650. Lambert Road is now Lamber-troad. Colima Road is now Call-leem Road. The 650 has not bluetooth or other features...maybe that is part of it. I used the sames voices on the 650 and 760. The 650 had better pronunciation.

In Des Moines Iowa, the street 'George M Mills Civic Parkway' comes out "George the 1000th Mills..." gives me a giggle every time I hear it. smile

I don't live too far off of Coitch road myself lol.

A friend of my daughter's loves it when we get close to her house. I put in "Allie's house" and Jack says, "Arriving at Tallie's house". Her new nickname is Tallie now.

sounds like diarrhea

Have you ever heard it say Victoria. I laugh so hard the way it pronounces it so it almost rhymes with diarrhea. Vic-tor-ee-ah.

If you notice if a street

If you notice if a street ends with Dr. she says Doctor and not drive.
