POI's and SD card problem

Ok I'm new at this, I drive a big truck and I just got the Garmin Nuvi 350 I have been using Microsofts streets and trips for almost 2 years but decided to try a real GPS I was going to wait and spend the money on a GPS ment for big trucks but was told by several other drivers that you can select truck as an option on most new GPS's and it will give you the truck route.
but no low clearance info. Anyway I downloaded the POI loader and the weigh station, rest stop, flying J, Pilot, and Loves POI's and I can't get it to work when I put them on the SD card. If I load them to the Nuvi I can only see the last POI's I uploaded to it and I saw on here some where someone mentioned making directories and I did that on the SD card to no avail.

All at the same time

You need to load all the POI's at the same time. Label one folder Custom POI then you can put folders inside that one to group things how you want. Such as "gas stations" then put the gas stations in there and another folder for "weigh stations" etc.. Then use POI loader and load the whole file. You need to load all the POI's together and it will label it as poi.gpi or you can load Love's then go into the POI folder and rename the poi'gpi to Loves.gpi and do that for each and every category.

Big Daddy!

Your in luck too because they just came out with a truck icon. Now you can match your ride! http://www8.garmin.com/vehicles/product.html?vName=bigDaddy

Ok that worked but .....

I can do that and save it to the internal memory on the Nuvi but I can't get it to work on the SD card I know the card is good because I can write to it and read from it on my laptop and when it's in the slot on the Nuvi but the Nuvi cant read from it or i'm doing something wrong.

POI Loader

WHen you use POI Loader, in the begining it asks you where to save the file to. I think you need to select advanced or special...? There are 3 locations and I think it is the bottom one. The first one is to the nuvi, the second I think might be mapsource then the 3rd is custom maybe? And you would just find the card from there. Or, you can just drag and drop the .gpi file that you now have on your gps to the SD Card. You might want to rename it though since everytime you do this, it will call the file POI.gpi and over write the last poi.gpi.

Just run the poi loader like

Just run the poi loader like you do for putting the custom poi files to the unit with this exception.Make sure you have sd card in the unit. When you get to find device you will see arrow across from device.Click on it and it will open the pull down window. Now select your sd card from the list. Now continue on with the download.

Hmmmmm....

Well I tryed it all and it just won't work off the SD card but I got all my custom POI actually loaded on the Nuvi Oh well maybe I'll load some MP3's on the SD card and see if I can get it to work that way.

Find the Removable drive

Find the Removable drive under My Computer. http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/9954/computerbk8.png
Then when you load up poi loader select that drive. http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/4373/poidk5.png

It will work for your unit.I bet the problem is that you are not making a folder on the sd card like you did to install to the unit.Look at this node for making the subfolders http://www.poi-factory.com/node/8674 .

SD Card Problem - Nuvi 350

You can definitely load the POIs to an SD card. I have nearly 800,000 on mine. Make sure that the Find Device screen on POI Loader shows Nuvi SD (drive letter will probably be N:\). If it doesn't show as Nuvi SD, you will need to open Windows Disk Manager and select the Nuvi SD card and assign it a drive letter not already in use. After POIs are loaded by POI loader, you need to reboot your Nuvi. It will ask if you want the files stored on the Nuvi. Say no. They will then be stored on the SD card. When you open Custom POIs on your Nuvi, you should see them all there.

Keeping files on the SD card

I'm not sure if your unit works like my 760 but, if it does, then when it asks if you want to move the POI info to the unit select YES. At that point I get an option to to say Skip this file and a box to check to tell it not to ask me again for that file. That way it doesn't ask me about the file every time I boot the thing.
