Arranging POI's

Simply create subfolders (one level down only) for each desired category then place your POI files within. When you run the POI Loader, simply point it to the parent folder. The name of each subfolder will become a separate POI category.

.

You can have subfolders under your main folder. The folders will create categories on the GPS unit. You can't have more than one level of subfolder. The files themselves will create the subcategory.

For example, it might look like this.

> My POI (Main folder)
>> IHOP (subfolder)
... IHOP.csv
... IHOP.bmp
>> National Parks (subfolder)
... National Parks.gpx
... National Monuments.gpx
... National Recreation areas.gpx
... National Parks.bmp
... National Monuments.bmp
etc.

In this example, IHOP and National Parks show up as categories and then under National Parks, the subcategories of National Parks, National Monuments, and National Recreation Areas show up.

Here are some screenshots of what it would look like.

This is a shot of the folder and files on my computer.

This is how the first level shows up on my Zumo.

When I select the National Parks category, this is what I get.

Then if I select National Monuments, I get this.

That was a very clear reply. Thanks for the effort in creating such a clear response. It helped me and I didn't have the question.

Another help

Someone here a week or so ago also had a hint I've found helpful. The idea was to copy the regular POI's as above to the SD card. Then when you turn on the GPS, tell it you do NOT want to copy them to the NUVI and not to ask again. Then make a "second folder" on your computer, and put the POI's you want to make alerts for in a subfolder called for instance Alerts. Run POI Loader and copy this "second folder" to the Nuvi (not the card). This will reduce the time spent creating the alerts and when done, they will show up as another folder under Custom POI. The original ones are not deleted because they are on the card and the alerts are on the Nuvi. Whoever first posted this--Thanks cause I'd never thaught of it.
