Exporting the favorites data on a nuvi

I'm tyring to figure out how to export my favorites on my Nuvi 660 and how my father can export his on the Nuvi 265wt.

I've read about mapsource in some posts and checked the Garmin site. But it looks like that software only works on a PC, not on a Mac, which we both use (most of the time).

We would like to keep a backup of all the points of interest that we collect in our favorites folder. Ideally, we'd like to get them into a CSV file like our other POIs are. Is there an easy way to export them or is there a free program that can look at the gpx file and decode it into lat and long, name and notes?

I'm not sure where to go next with this.

Thanks,
John

.

The favorites can be exported by copying the current.gpx file off of the Nuvi. x:\Garmin\GPX\Current.gpx

Once you have saved a copy of the current.gpx file to your computer you can open/edit it using the free Extra_POI_Editor http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor

Dead file

The file that is available for download is not any good. Maybe it will be fixed soon.

The download of Extra Poi Editor should be ok.Did you do the part below?Scroll down pass the download and you will see the file

Are you missing the required OCX file?

Use the installer instead. You may only have to do this once since this will install all the required files for future releases. This is just an install to get the library files. You should always use the latest version of Extra_POI_Editor.

You can do a lot with the program. One plus is that there is a setting to set all the proximity alerts at one time instead of separate when using the gpx format.Allows you to use the express mode instead of the manual mode for poiloader.

This is a really neat little program to use. Thanks to the publisher.

@rodeman:

You can use RoadTrip (aka Bobcat) to transfer your favourites (waypoints) from your Nuvi to your Mac. You can download the current version (2.0.2) from Garmin or Apple:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/drivers/garminroadtrip...

Here's the Garmin page for all available Mac software:
