Phoenix Cameras

This morning, AZCentral reports that close to 2/3 of the camera activations actually make it to tickets being issued.

On a side note, I was driving I-10 the other evening and got flashed (from a mobile enforcement van) while going 60mph. It is widely reported that DPS gives you 10mph over the speed limit. In this instance, I was going 5 over the limit, with the rest of the traffic, and it flashed quite a few of us. It will be interesting to see if I get a ticket mailed to me and if it is, what the violation says.

Out of curiousity, anyone know what the law says about signing for the mobile cameras in AZ? Here I've seen the yellow warning signs on the right side of the road and the van on the left side with 4 traffic lanes in between.

For fixed cameras they "say"

For fixed cameras they "say" the limit is 10mph over the posted limit. For DPS vehicles/officers it is up to "their" discretion at what speed over the posted limit that they issue you a ticket. I would think it would be 10mph but don't take that to the bank.

OK.....so where the heck am I?

Just went to

Just went to Phoenix/Scottsdale one month ago and the Redlight Camera files on this site worked really well. Thanks to all who update the file!

I got flashed for well under

I got flashed for well under 10mph over the PSL, by a stationary speed camera, in Phoenix.

I believe they do flash to calibrate the cameras sometimes. So maybe that's what happened.

Update

As an update, even thought I got flashed (see first post in this thread), I never received a ticket in the mail. Must have been my lucky day.

Testing New Vans

It's possible that they were using a new van that needed to be tested. About 2 months ago, I was driving southbound on the 101 at Grand Av, when I saw a camera under the train track overpass. It was set up on a tripod with a separate flash and cameras for both north and southbound. There was a company employee working the camera from what appeared to be a laptop. I assume that this is the same type of system without the van. It looked like the one they used in the Mythbusters episode on beating the photo speed cameras. This one also flashed every car that passed including myself. I was actually going 60 when I passed since I saw him setting up on a previous pass. I'm guessing it was a test of the system. Today there was a brand new unmarked escape under the I17/101 underpass along with a fully marked one. My guess is they are putting new vans into operation and they are checking the calibration on the radar and synch with the cameras.

AZ going Point-to-Point?

Has anyone heard about AZ going to point-to-point on their cameras with Redflex? By point-to-point, I mean Redflex calculating how fast you are going between cameras and sending tickets for speeding based on that.

Payments are dropping in AZ

This article this morning shows that drivers getting photo violations are paying less. AZ DPS has set up a special task force to go after the serious violators. Interesting...
