Nuvi 660 security lock glitch?

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar situation with a Garmin Nuvi(mine 660). I am aware that if turned on with a certain security zone that the GPS will recognize and boot; but, I have found that if I am at a different location and simply power up the unit, after a certain period of time (a few minutes), it will go to the "view map" page. In other words, in some instances it has bypassed the security code. Is it just a sequence of events with power up and down, or is there some way to get around the security lock?

Did you turn it off in the

Did you turn it off in the security zone and then turn it on later outside of it? How close to your security zone were you when you noticed this? No guessing, go measure it.

Go across town, set your security point at a place you don't frequent, away from where you may be when turning it on and off. See how it behaves then. Stay away from that security point for a while and see how it does.

Hi Phranc, When I get in

Hi Phranc,
When I get in the car at my house, which is close to the security zone (took someone's advice and made it a few doors down), I get the security code screen on bootup. If I don't do anything, IOW just leave that cod screen on the unit, after a period of time, I believe it goes to the "view map" screen, without any input from me. Or so it seems; I need to investigate a bit more; it has happened when I stopped the car, but I was aware that the unit was still plugged into the car charger. Thanks for your response...I'll check it out under various scenarios. It just might be the sequence of turn on, driving, shutdown of car but staying on the charger, etc.

Then what is happening is,

Then what is happening is, when the unit first aquires, the accuaracy is really poor, and it thinks it's further away from the point than it is. As it gains more data from the satellite, the accuracy improves and it realizes it's close enough to the security point to unlock.

Make your security point somewhere miles away from where you normally turn it on and off. As in miles away from your home. setting for the neighbors house down the street isn't very smart, and likely to piss your neighbour off when he finds out your GPS led the thief to his house.

My "home" is the middle of a major intersection about a 1/4 mile away. I almost always go through the intersection whenever I leave my development - and I definitely know my way home from that intersection.

I had the same problem with

I had the same problem with my Nuvi 255W. My security zone was about a half mile from my house. When I turned it on in my house it sat there showing the Enter Pin screen for a few minutes and then went to the Where To screen and was ready to navigate.
After I got some advise from here I moved the security zone three miles away and everything was fine.
I don't think a couple of doors down is far enough.

Thanks for the good

Thanks for the good information. I will change my security point to one far enough that the unit can't use it for initialization. Happy Mothers Day to all you mothers out there!
