new & interesting places for your GPS

Rest Areas

I'm trying to do rest areas. Actually starting over because it didn't work the first time. (The alert never went off.) I downloaded again Rest Areas csv, bmp and Mp3 and renamed them Rest Areas.csv, Rest Areas.bmp and Rest Areas.mp3. Do I have to set my own alert. Is there one already set for it like the red light cameras.

Your own alert

You have to set up your own proximity alarm settings either by using manual installation with POI Loader or by using Keywords or numbers in the title.

A recent thread on this subject was http://www.poi-factory.com/node/22165

POI Loader

You have to set your own alert using POI Loader. When you get to the selection screen, select Manual Mode, not Express Mode. Next you will be able to set, or not set, distance alerts for each POI file you are loading (if more than one).

I have my rest area alert set for 2 miles to give me plenty of time to move into the correct lane. The distance is entered in feet not miles, so I use 10,560 feet in POI Loader.

POI Loader Help File

Start the POI Loader program and click on the Help button. Then select "Understanding Speed and Proximity Alert Information." There, it will give you a great description of all the terms and keywords.
