What downloads, upgrades do you have on your GPS?

I wanted to see how many people have tweaked up there gps unit. I have the voice maximizer, tons of vehicles on the sd card and downloaded several free basemaps on my c530. I also have the splash screen with the emergency number and contact info if lost. Gotta love the POI alerts for speed cams as well. Let's hear how you upgraded your unit.

splash screen

That's an awesome idea. I'm going to edit my splash screen too with my contact info. I also have tons of vehicles but I installed mine directly to the unit. I have so many POI on mine. What's the voice maximizer?

Voice maximizer

Its the voice file that a poi memeber went through each file and boosted the sound on each stream file. The voice is loud enough to be heard on a mortorcyle if you have your gps unit attached to it.

Voice maximizer

I would like to download that. Can you please attach the link for it. That would be great cause I drive with the windows down in the car and cant hear the GPS for nothing.

go to the FAQ

once your in the FAQ, Find "tools link" and you will find a lot of fun tools to use!

However, I never really did play with the file.. never made time to do it. keep saying that I was going to someday. Sorry. Maybe someone else can be more helpful in this.

POIs, updates...

Custom splash screen and vehicle icon, POIs which I update (usually every 2 weeks). When it comes to firmware updates, I like to let others ride the bleeding edge, waiting a week or so before I install them, unless there's a bug fix for something that has bitten me personally...

I'm the same, I love downloading new POIs every week as well.

Do you plan on playing around with the voice files for the c530?

POIs, updates...

I love the red light/speed camera POIs. I also have the "Blues Brothers" shooting locations.

nice..

never knew about BB locations.

I have...

POIs, Customized Jill, and Vehicles. POIs are mostly Motor Coach related.

Upgrades

Last upgrade was the 2010 map to Nuvi

Nuvi360

Voice Maximizer

Well this sounds like a winner. I have a motorcycle and the voice maximizer sounds like what I might need, How do I get it?

Legs

customize

POIs, modified Karen, splash screen (Karen Jacobsen), the vehicle (3D arrow).

nüvi 750 & 760

I wait...

I was waiting for next year for the newer maps....

Just the Basics

2008 maps, a few vehicles, and the traffic POI's. Keep it simple, I say...

Tuckahoe Mike - Nuvi 3490LMT, Nuvi 260W, iPhone X, Mazda MX-5 Nav

mods to my gps

I modified the voices with turbocc's program, added dozens of poi categories including speed cams and red light cams. Added customized vehicles to resemble my vehicle and new splash screens,

I customized the gps mount by hiding the ac adapter behind the dashboard and linked directly to a switchable fuse link in the fuse box (auto on/off).

wow...

That's a modification I never thought about.

Upgrades

Hey All ...

I am pretty new to all this GPS/POI stuff. I do have the Nuvi 760 and love it. I have since downloaded a few Vehicles. I am currently rocking the "Marley". I've downloaded the Dunkin Donuts, Triple D, and SUM Network ATM Locations.

But Reading this ... brings up a few questions for me.
1 - What is a "Splash Screen"?? And how do I use it.
2 - How do I get the Icons that corrispond to the POI Files to pop up on my screen? It gives me a checkered flag at my final destination, but Not the downloaded Icon??
(You may email/PM me this info, so I don't Hijack this thread)

Thanks in advance !!!!

I did the same thing. I put in an inline fuse, and jumped it off of the Fuse Box. That way the Cigarette lighter plug from the GPS is connected under the dash and out of the way. Looks like a permanent install. But then I can also remove it quickly and install temporarily in another vehicle.

Did this in a 2004 Silverado P/U.

Add Ons

Custom vehicle (my Yukon), Custom Home icon (my house), pois, Tripmaster, Screenshot & Tomplayer.

cool.

The house icon sounds unique. love it. might try it myself is i have the guts.

GPS customization

My GPS has been customized in using a favorite digital photo as a splash screen. A vehicle icon which closely matches my P/U has been installed. I routinely travel a 360 mile route. I have a custom POI file for this route which is continually expanding and being tweeked. Numerous files from The POI Factory are kept updated and utilized.

GPS stuff

I added the 2008 map, a few vehicles, and the traffic POI's, plus other POI's from this site.

I also update the software after all you try it for a few weeks, no sense on messing my system up, lol.

Updated bluetooth software

Updated bluetooth software on my GPS. With stock version unit loses connection to my blackberry all the time. The new version seems fixed the problem.

This really makes me want to

This really makes me want to upgrade from my SP 7200. Not so many customizations that I get. I'm feeling so left out.

so nice ...

I wish I have the tech skill to do some of these.
Long way ahead of me.

How to hide the AC power adapter

I hook the AC line thru the AC vents (behind the ProClip gps mount) and hidden behind the dashboard. So no hanging ac line draped across the dashboard.

Less flexibility with the ac power adapter but it sure looks clean!

splash and icon

Stitches040 wrote:

Like your pc, the splash screen is the initial wallpaper on the device's screen. I changed it from the garmin screen to a jpg of my vehicle.
2 - How do I get the Icons that corrispond to the POI Files to pop up on my screen? It gives me a checkered flag at my final destination, but Not the downloaded Icon??
The icon files must have the same file name as the specific POI file. For example: starbucks.csv and starbucks.bmp

allbizz is right. Once you take the first step, it's all downhill from there (hmm....figuratively and literally).

Just ask questions, how else can we amuse ourselves here??

NEVER EVER

NEVER EVER touch the black wire and the red wire at the same time!! (jk)

Just post questions, what do you want to do first?

--
“It’s their world. We’re just living in it.”

yes... .something to begin with

I am glad I have something to begin with.
While I am trying to see where are black and red wires, Just realized I never receive these two wires when my GPSr was purchased. Now, this becomes a major problem that I have no way to secure my GPSr against vent which I keep hearing that is the best arrangement. Anyone has pictures of these two wires and how they are used?
