Make your nuvi louder

Greetings all,

From perusing the web, I found an interesting forum discussion on increasing your nuvi's volume above and beyond using the nuvi menu volume settings. Before posting the method here, I followed the procedure and find that I successfully increased Jill's and Karen's volume. I find this very helpful since I use my nuvi 750 in my car at max volume and although it's adequate most of the time, there are also times I wish I could increase the volume.

Rather than following the original poster's instructions as written, I tried to be a bit safer: I created a subdirectory on my PC hard drive called nuviLouder and copied the vpm files I wished to modify there. I then edited these hard drive files as instructed using the free EditPad Lite, saved them, and copied them to my nuvi. Of course, I also have my entire nuvi, including the garmin/voice files, backed up with the stock voices elsewhere on my hard drive in case things didn't work as expected.

Since the link for volume modification refers to using a text editor, I initially tried using Windows Notepad but that didn't work. I'm not sure if the files are too big for Notepad or if Notepad balked at the file contents. EditPad Lite works fine, though. Here's a link:

and scroll down the page to find the free version.

And just to reiterate the Original Poster's comment, be sure you have backups of the files you're modifying before you start to tinker. As the poster wrote: "Stuff happens and I'm not responsible."

:-)

Maybe they read this POI-Factory thread? See the post entitled "Other Things" (29th March 2007) here:
