I have enough to carry around..

I suppose it would be ok if you want to carry your laptop around with you. But if you have a gps I don't see the point. Although it's a good way to get MapSource City Navigator North America NT for $20 less than Garmin charges and get a new toy.. grin

I have a Mobile PC and...

Just came back from Florida, driving from KY... using it on an eeePC and LOVE IT!! I love that it says the street names so I don't have to pay so much attention. Gives alerts when you get close to POI and that I can use Map Source and google.kmls (converted of course) rather than having to input each address.

My husband designed a great vehicle laptop desk (which we will probably add to our other "for sale" items) so I wouldn't have to hold it while navigating for him and watching Holmes on Homes and listening to music on the LOOOOONNNNGGG DRIVE! Plus all the other things you can do while you actually have a computer rather than just a gps. (We have an iQue 3600 and love it too but for different purposes!)

Still have a bunch to learn but so far really enjoying it.

I could not get custom POI's

I could not get custom POI's Sound and Icon to work properly on Garmin Mobile PC. I tried everything (sox.exe, same name files, etc). Some Icons appear but some are black and no sounds play only the default 'ding-ding' sound and the "ALERT: POI NAME" above the interface whenever i get close to a POI. Anyone have any luck getting the sounds/icons to display correctly.??

EDIT: I Just found a fix on

EDIT: I Just found a fix on icons showing black. I was looking at the other icons that where showing up on the map and notice that the file size are 1.56kb size at 22x22 dimensions. So i tried changing the others to the same dimension and used a Shareware BMP File Reducer Program (google it) to bring down the file size and it worked. For some odd reason a lot of the icons were reduced from 1.9KB to 1.56KB. some were reduced to 1.51KB although tehe icons that were 1.51KB showed up black on the map.. I guess this program is very picky. Can anyone else try this and confirm ?

As for the sounds...I will now try to use MP3 format instead of WAV and see if that works..
