Map Icons when navigating

Hi, Just purchased a Garmin Nuvi 200W, good bit of kit for the money but I was just wondering about a few things and would like some info if possible.
On the main navigation map when driving I don’t see any icons when I pass by fuel stations or Parking lots, pubs etc; on my other sat navs I’ve seen all these icons.
Is there any way of having these icons on the map when driving, is this not a feature on the Nuvi 200w? or have I just set it up wrong?

.

You need to zoom in to at least 300 feet (200 feet on some models) or closer in order the icons to show on the map screen.

And on some models, you must also be in 2D (as opposed to 3D) map mode.

And on some models, you must ALSO be browsing the map (ie you must touch the map screen) in order for the icons to show on the map.

re: map icons

Its a Nuvi 200w, Its not a very good feature if you have to use 2D to see the icons.
Anyone got a Nuvi 200w and can confirm you can do this on 3D map, ill keep playing around with the settings in the mean time, thanks for your reply

for some

Garmin has decided not to let you see icons unless you are zoomed in very tight 300 feet on most. A poor design to say the least. Thats what you have to do though.
I myself think they should allow them at all levels with the ability to view your choices of icons through selective filtering to reduce clutter.

300-foot zoom seems a bit close but . . .

I've noticed in using Mapsource on the PC monitor that the map gets cluttered very quickly with icons for waypoints, etc. thus hiding the underlying topo maps I use. So I'm just guessing here, but maybe Garmin was trying to avoid that from happening on the gps display until you zoom in. I'm not so sure their chosen 300-foot zoom is the best, however!

being negative about Garmin, and you know that some are going to tell you that Garmin is great! However I agree with you. The older unit allow you to define detail levels, just like on Map Source.

You guys need to stopping speaking negatively about Garmin. Otherwise this thread will be locked also.

Let the record show that I fully support all of Garmin's decisions. Garmin is the bestest company in the whole world and they make the most awesomest GPS devices with absolutely no flaws.

I have some well irrigated farm land on a lake in south central Florida for sale. Just watch the birdies.
