Using Routes with Nüvi 750

I have a very simple question (I think). I know how to create a route on my Nüvi 750. I have defined a start point, a via point and an end point and have saved that route.

Now, I want to use it!! I click on "Where to" then I go to the route that I have saved and say "Go". First thing it asks me is: Would you like to navigate to the beginning of the route?" If I say Yes, all I have is the way from where I am to the beginning of the route!!

If I happen to be exactly at the "start point" of the route, it shows me very cryptic instructions like "drive to ramp", "drive to I-85", "drive to 120a", etc. It doesn't give me the details I am used to like "turn left on Knox Road", Exit 120a right to I-85-Br North", etc.

Unfortunately, the Garmin Nüvi 750 Users Guide doesn't say anything about this.

What am I doing wrong?

.

Answer "No" to that question and then it will tell you to "Drive to the Highlighted Route". Then once you get to the route, the navigation on the route will begin.

NO to query

also, if your starting over from a point on the route the answer is no. Otherwise it will start you from the beginning.

Route

Well, I tried it today and it didn't work. I was driving on the route that I had defined and I went "goto" and route. All it gave me was generic instructions, no voice and no distance in the left bottom corner. All I had there was an arrow showing (I think) the direction of travel.

I will have to do more test but maybe there is a bug.

No voice, maybe no TTS?

Could the no voice mean you don't have a TTS voice selected. My 750 changed from a TTS to a none TTS voice on it's own once.

Correct Mode?

Could it be set to "Off Road" mode? Verify you have the mode set to "Faster Time" or "Shorter Distance".

I'm talking about the setting in:
Menu>Tools>Settings>Navigation>Route Preference

I just set my 760 to "Off Road" and tried to do what you described. I'm getting the results (with the arrow) that you described. When I set it to "Faster Time", it behaves the way Motorcycle Mama described.

I do see your point. If I'm not at the start point, either it tells me how to get to the start point, or it gives me directions as if I am at the start point. It doesn't ever give me directions to the nearest point on the route. Which would be nice. I only get the "Please drive to highlighted route." That may not always be helpful.

When I am actually at the start point, mine DOES seem to give direction that are normal though.

Try your experiments again

I believe you are correct when you select the option to NOT go to the beginning of the route. I seem to recall being annoyed that my 760 does not provide any navigation guidance when I am joining a route somewhere in the middle. It just says "please drive to highlighted route" and leaves it up to you to get there. Once I joined the route, it took over and provided navigation as usual for the rest of the route.

If I take the option to navigate to the beginning of the route, it navigates normally as though the start point of the route was an actual waypoint. It announces that it has arrived and is beginning the route when I get there. And then it continues with the route and continues with normal navigation prompting.

After reading your post again, it looks like you might be saying you were already ON the route when you loaded the route and selected go to the beginning of the route. I think it will give you some wierd behavior if you do that. If you are beyond the start point and just want to continue with the existing route, you should always answer No to that first prompt of "do you want to navigate to the beginning of the route".

Route problem - Fixed (I think)

I believe I have determined the reason for the problem I was having with the Routes feature. My saved routes had been created with the 2009 version of the maps. When I tried to use them, I had just installed the 2010 version of the maps.

Last week, I created a new route and tried it yesterday. It worked exactly as I expected.

Therefore: problem solved!!

Routes

It should not matter which maps as long as the same waypoints are used in the route and they haven't disappeared on the new maps..I don't think it is necessarily fixed but could be wrong. My nuvi often goes into the no TTS mode as well..now that is a bug!
